"out of video memory"
My specs:

i5 4690k OC'd to 4.5ghz
amd rx 480 8gb
16 gbs (4x4) ddr3 ram
seagate 2 tb hard drive

Despite my severely overkill amount of memory available for my computer, this game just constantly crashes with the line "out of video memory" regardless of graphics settings.

If the next update doesn't fix this I am refunding.

Edit: no more "out of video memory" crashing while playing, but performance is still absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

do you have the latest amd video drivers installed?

maybe lowering TEXTURES would help?
because textures occupy the biggest amount of memory on the graphics adaptor.
if it continues, i'd suggest to refuse from overclocking. it's very often leads to instability.
and see if it helps.

I only have 2.5gb of VRAM, and the game runs silky smooth on my machine. I would suggest that overclocking your system is making your rig run hot, and that's why you're getting the errors.

When I was doing Sea of Thieves a month or two back some kid had his machine way overclocked at a temperature way in excess of the design parameters, and he couldn't figure out why his game kept shutting down and his machine kept rebooting. So....

The textures have to be reduced! i have gtx 1080 8gb with everything on lowest settings (including texture streaming) and textures on only HIGH and not very high the game uses 7.6gb of Vram!
when textures are on veryhigh i exceed 7.9gb of VRAM and the game crashes!

VRAM is DEFFO an issue in the current build and i ALSO will be very disapointed if the new update does not address this as all the threads on the fporums about VRAM have not been answered at all by the devs.

ps. they also say that there will be "HIGHER QUALITY TEXTURES" in the new update !!
if VRAM is not optimized/fixed in the new update RIP 8 and lower GB graphics cards that this problem occurs on lol

Yeah no, overheating is not the cause of my problem, because i'm using an aftermarket cooler and my cpu never goes beyond 60 degrees in temperature.

Along with the fact a shortage of video memory has nothing to do with the temperature of my PC.

That can't be true, unless you have all of your settings set to VERY HIGH, in which case I'd reccomend getting a second or third video card with a pass through cable. To me the game looks fine on medium settings, and VERY HIGH doesn't add much, if anything, to gameplay.

i just maxed my video settings out and the game runs fine with occasional minor stutter and slight fps drops in coop.

Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB 64-bit
AMD Ryzen 5
16.0GB Dual-Channel RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB
465GB Crucial CT500MX500SSD1 (SATA (SSD))

maybe lower your vram setting in the options. my card has 3gigs of vram so i set my vram in options to 3 gigs

I just checked my settings now and compared them with some YouTube footage, and the only real benefits you're going to get at high or very high settings are geometry (walls, rocks, etc.) and foliage (trees, grass, shrubs). The player models and textures look mostly the same. And again, I only have 2.5gbof VRAM on my whole system.

Again, the only solution is to buy another card or cut back on your resource usage.

you obviously dont know what your talking about m8, what kind of graphics cards have 2.5gb Vram anyway? are you playing on a laptop?
when playing in higher resolutions than 1080p on larger monitors you need the higher res testures as anything else looks like absolute turd!
this game DOES NOT have that good textures compaired to other games in which have better textures and much bigger maps with way way less VRAM usage.
ie. Battlefield V uses a max Vram of about 3.8GB on my system with EVERYTHING set to MAX.
that game have way way higher quality textures and more of them.

its a Optimization thing that is the problem and the solution is not to lower settings or buy more hardware (extra graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire do NOT double your Vram anyway you should know this).
the solution is to make the devs aware of the issue and they fix it.

The game can eat around 4GB of RAM and consumes as much VRAM as it can so it does not need to stream as much. That's not a problem at all.

Are you monitoring your commit charge (virtual memory pool) ? Also, did you disable the virtual memory (pagefile) for some reason ?

No, that's not correct at all. And it is why motherboards today come with more than one PCIE slot, so you can add more hardware--these days it's more geared towards video processing because of higher quality models and textures like Sandstorm. My system, even though it's set to medium as a default, runs the game at Very High. Occasionally I get some stuttering, but not enough to ruin the gameplay.

And for what it's worth my monitor is ultra widescreen, and the game looks fine ... "mate".

i Monitor everything!
i do not use a pagefile.
this problem is an issue with sooo many people.
2 of my friends with different cards (GTX 980 and 980 ti) also have the exact same issue!
game eats sooooo much VRAM
there are many many threads in the forums, in reddit and ive seen people talk about it in twitter.
it has nothing to do with RAM or pagefiles or other caching of such.

after trying 3 different monitoring programs (to see if MSI AFTERBURNER was incorrect) the results are the same on every program.

it seems to lost of people that it is a VRAM leak! but it is not as the Vram lowers to about 3.4GB when we go back to the main menu. (yes the main menu uses 3.5gb of vram)
