ww2 guns?
It might be a bit off especially for the part 2 of Insurgency but those guns added flare for both teams in my opinion.

The M1Carbine for Security for example felt very Mercenary and I thought the Sten was kinda fun.

And MP40 were classic and apparently found from real Taliban.

PPsh 41 with drum for Insurgents ftw

i really dont think that old ww2 guns would fit security as insurgency should fit more of an "terrorist/civil fighters VS anti terrorist forces" and because generally terrorists/civil fighters use old weapons because they are mostly cheap and already built in big masses

About the past game:
The M1 carbine was pretty cool.
The MP40 felt out of place.
The Sterling is not a WW2 smg.

I would like a PPsh 41 and a Lee Enfield rifle.

MP40 was one of the best guns in the game, not sure how it was out of place. The Sterling is, in fact, a WW2 smg. It was made and tested at the end of WW2, just not used in WW2.

Lee Enfield, M1 Carbine and STG 44 are few only weapons thatm ake any sence in middle east conflict, since they were the few that were actually seen there.

I don't think there're many MP40s in the middle east. I think they could have chosen another smg.

Under that concept the Ak47 is a WW2 rifle too because it was tested during 1944 but not used in combat.
I don't know what to think of that.

What? Have you seen their gunshops? You can probably find PPSH modded to use 7.62x51 belt there. There's basically almost anything on their gun markets, especially with game setting, there's some hot conflit with advisors from all over the world, what means that basically anything that is on service somewhere could be found in sandstorm battlefield.
