AI Skill Adjusting By Player Level
UPDATE: Since this post has been bumped and the OP was made three years ago, I'd like to correct myself on what I think happens. AI appears to adjust based off of skill, not level. The current running theory is that Sandstorm looks at your recent performance in coop matches and the the AI adjusts accordingly. It's actually an interesting mechanic, but in practice, the AI becomes insanely unfair against high-skill players.

Now, I know it probably sounds like I'm just being a skrub or something, but hear me out. I think I'm onto something here, and I've had quite a few people agree. Plus, with a combined total of about 400 hours in Sandstorm (counting the CTA/CTE) and nearly 1500 hours in Ins2, I'm most likely not trash at the game (I mean, no guarantees though :insfist:).

Bots seem far deadlier to high-level players than low-level ones. NWI was asked if bot difficulty scaling by player levels was a feature was in the game and they claimed that it wasn't, but I'm not so sure.

Now, the bots in general are very inconsistent, but there does seem to be two pretty evident extremes of bots being terminators and bots being garbage. I've noticed that bots tend to lean towards the garbage side with low-level players (even going so far as to ignore players that are level 0-9 completely for 3-5 seconds) and tend to leap towards the Terminator side against high-level players (which for this argument is 60+). That being said, there are cases where the bots annihilate low-level players and ignore high-level players, but these cases make up the minority.

This is an interesting theory, and probably correct. I've got 202 hours in this game (level 115), almost entirely coop and this video is my life in this game post patch. The most obvious problems im running into as of late are AI tracking through walls and 1 tapping as they round a corner (to the point where I see shrapnel of the little bit of wall they shot through before hitting my tender skull) this type of death is about 80% of the total ill take in a round. The other 20% are generally laser guided molotovs. Thank you for putting this together, as of now I bought Rising Storm 2 and will put this away until they actually put some effort into the AI, at least ill know my death was meaningful.

Top Tier Fixes after 200 hours:
1. AI tracking through walls and 1 tapping
2. AI Inconsistency
3. Laser Guided Molotovs
4. AI instantly downing Helos
5. Mortars/Arty killing through walls

... and to the fanbois... I've played since the beta, take a breath before posting, you don't have to defend broken mechanics....

I'm actually kinda shocked that the first response to this post wasn't someone saying I'm trash lol.

Nearly 400+ hours in Sandstorm /400+ in INS. You make plenty of valid points so no need to trash the comments. On top of that I don't understand why many people get so hostile with suggestions for this game. Good things come from discussion, and I absolutely agree the molotovs need some sort of mechanic change, the laser guided ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is exactly that. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I have over 700 hours. This is not a new reality. This has been going on since BETA. The higher level you are, the more ♥♥♥♥♥♥ you become.

Well, given most of the replies have less hours, this realization is coming to us now. I do distinctly remember running around with just a pistol and Azraeling maps sub lvl 50.

I guess there are questions worth asking like, so now what? I'm not sure what to do here as a fan of the game other than walk away for the time being. Are we the target audience anymore? Are the devs even willing to comment on these issues, or is it a point not worth calling attention to given a massive portion of the audience just picked the game up on the recent sale and are not in our position?

Seriously, I want the game and the studio to succeed, I am kind of at a loss on the answers here....

Agreed, though I’m not sure it’s just based on level. I’m level 54, and a mate I play with is around level 30, and we typically carry hard in co-op matches, 60-70+ kills each, and 2-3 deaths at most. We’re fairly often victims to bots instantly flicking to us and one shotting us, then watching them be worse than stormtroopers against teammates that seem like they don’t even have half a brain.

It’s on a consistent enough basis that we do wonder if something like this is in the game.

This bot AI is a total fail looking at the facts. But it seems THEY think this AI is a brilliant piece of art.
Don't expect improvement in the near future. No recommendation for this part of the game.

I'm not even sure if I can recommend this game at all. No idea how it's 90% positive reviews.

...because it was less problematic in Alpha / Beta - now after 1.3 Coop is quite broken or comic or whatever your mood is set when you play (I see no problem or trouble for PVP / PVE players) ..

There is no such thing in this game. They are just inconsistent. The developers have said numerous times that the bots dont target higher level players.

Ever think that maybe low level players play differently then experienced players? Slower perhaps? Perhaps experienced players are more aggressive? Maybe because experienced players are doing more of the shooting and killing maybe the bots AI makes them go "wait a minute, I hear a threat" before the lower level players?

i dont mind hard core games system .. the system that bots think like human but bots in this game are supper human :cta_emo4:
