Retromania Wrestling now out on Steam - comparisons with FPWW?
I don't think it looks half as good as Fire Pro and, on the face of it, lacks the ability to customize. Customization is about 90% of what I really use Fire Pro for!

But there are some little features which look good in Retromania. I like the touch of having a manned announce table but also an interview/presentation area next to the ring, and the gameplay suits the arcade style as opposed to Fire Pro's more strategic and realistic approach. Depends which style you like and what mood you're in!

I am sticking to Fire Pro but am interested to see if Retromania develops further. At most, down the line, it would be a side alternative to play next to Fire Pro.

Also seems like it can only currently be bought in US, so it is not released to everyone.

I hope it does well but after decades of wrestling games, I always come back to Fire Pro so I just plan on sticking with Fire Pro from here on out.

The Retromania Dev just answered some of my questions, and judging by their answer Fire Pro is far supreme at this stage. It's clear what my questions were from their answers!

Here are answers they gave:

1. Max is 8 wrestlers in the ring. We could probably get more in there but it gets pretty crowded. But hey, I guess we could try it in an update. We will look into it.

2. Crowd is not interactive as of yet. We agree that would be a cool feature.

3. Just the Story mode that has some story decisions. Other than that no.

4. The ref is note interactive currently.

5. We are looking in to adding some customization options in the future. Nothing definite yet.

6. Scope of DLC really depends on how the game does. So far we are off to a good start.

why do you feel the need to stick to fire pro? why cant you enjoy and play both? is there something i am missing where people have to play one wrestling game at a time?

Actually at the end of my post I did say it could be a side alternative down the line, but at the minute it doesn't have enough pluses for me to justify the expenditure . I don't just buy every game that comes along.

i hope it does well but the animation need a lot more frames i think. Something like Sailor Moon is good https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7QIYJN-xBM

is it ok to make a thread like this? i think i saw Ultimate MMA thread a while ago and it get removed

Don't see why not.

I saw NewLegacyInc's playthrough on YouTube with Colt Cobana and it looks alright. The roster doesn't really interest me though. If they add customisation / Workshop support then I might take a punt on it.

At the moment I'm hooked on Journey Of Wrestling. It's a browser based booking simulation that allows you to pick which era / company you want to control. It's free too, although it's worth upgrading to the paid version so you can hire staff and sign indy wrestlers. I'm at KotR 1997 at the moment and I'm fairly confident a heel Macho Man and a face 1-2-3 Kid are going to give me a match of the year candidate.

Exactly. The roster is so thin (obviously due to WWE having all the licences) that it really does need that customization to create the wrestlers you want to see in the game. And also when the dev says they will consider putting these features in down the line, will they REALLY or is this just to get people to buy the game, even if they have absolutely no intention

It looks pretty bleh to me.

* The animations make the Samoan Drop in Fire Pro look acceptable.

* The matches I've seen seem arbitrary and lackluster. There's no flow, pacing, or thought to them.

* The roster, as mentioned, is lacking. I like Austin Idol and the Road Warriors, but most of the rest of it seems to be lower to mid-card dreck.

* Zero customization.

* Stupidly overpriced for a remake of a 30 year old game. Nostalgia is powerful, but it's not blinding.

i can tolerate the lack of customization, i think it's too much to ask for an indie team.

how many moves each wrestler has?

AAW and MDickie did it with a one person team. If it's too much to ask of them to include something that has been standard in wrestling games for 25 years, then a $34 price tag is not just overpriced, but absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insulting.

Agreed. Also would make up for the poor roster, as people would be able to create (and share) licensed wrestlers

I'm guessing those 2 games are in 3D where they only need to create the parts once and it will somewhat animate itself thanks to the 3D's magic. 2D doesn't work like that, you have to redraw it for every sprites.

It can be done but it takes a long time and money.

Both did it in 2D actually.

Both use 3D now, but it didn't start that way.
