Anyone else play this almost exclusively as a MMA game?
I really think the FPW series is the best MMA series as well, to be frank. The matches are fast-paced and the MMA mechanics are a lot more fun and no less unrealistic than the clumsy UFC games. It's also really easy to add all your favorite fighters to the game and sim matches satisfactorily.

I am more into mma than I am wrestling these days (although I did enjoy wrestling as a youngster in the 80's and a little in the early 90s).

As for this game I usually pick one user made wrestler from back in the day, one mma user made character, one boxer and then one random like batman or a street fighter character lol

I do not actually but recently started simming mma style matches and....they are actually really cool.

I do as I'm not a huge fan of the grapple timing which is less prevalent in MMA matches.

I also agree it's maybe the best MMA game ever and they don't market it well enough as also being a MMA game in my opinion.

MMA matches are also better with fighting games CAWS like Streetfighter or Tekken as you get KO's and no silly Irish whips.

The fact that you get a Pride style ring with boxing style rules, and a 12 sided cage similar to the UFC octogon just makes it even better.

Nothing better than playing a tournament and watching the other matches take place, MMA mode in this game is arguably even better than the pro wreslting.

The MMA sim matches seem more realistic. I used a workshop Mike Tyson and watched him knock out someone by his uppercut.....mma style matches might need a bit more moves though.

I always liked creating CAWs that mix MMA fighting with pro wrestling moves. That's why I always loved Fire Pro games. It's nearly impossible to do that in any other game. The only other series that I remember being able to do something like that in was Virtual Pro Wrestling.

Yeah VPW2 also had a really great MMA mode, also this is little known but WCW VS NWO Revenge also had some remnants of a MMA mode, a few wrestlers like Goldberg and Kanyon had a special 5 strike combo mode that can transition into grapples that other wrestlers didn't have.

They took all that out for the WWE games which is just another reason why VPW2 absolutely wrecks No Mercy in terms of being a great wrestling game.

King of Colloseum 2 had the best MMA for a wrestling game it had top mounts side mounts butterfly guards north south transitions you name it and prity much every submission move known to man armbars heel hooks hammer locks neck cranks chokes flying armbars.
even down to the noises it made when you won by submission and you could hear the bone snap it still makes me shudder hearing it today.
