As for this game I usually pick one user made wrestler from back in the day, one mma user made character, one boxer and then one random like batman or a street fighter character lol
I also agree it's maybe the best MMA game ever and they don't market it well enough as also being a MMA game in my opinion.
MMA matches are also better with fighting games CAWS like Streetfighter or Tekken as you get KO's and no silly Irish whips.
The fact that you get a Pride style ring with boxing style rules, and a 12 sided cage similar to the UFC octogon just makes it even better.
Nothing better than playing a tournament and watching the other matches take place, MMA mode in this game is arguably even better than the pro wreslting.
The MMA sim matches seem more realistic. I used a workshop Mike Tyson and watched him knock out someone by his uppercut.....mma style matches might need a bit more moves though.
Yeah VPW2 also had a really great MMA mode, also this is little known but WCW VS NWO Revenge also had some remnants of a MMA mode, a few wrestlers like Goldberg and Kanyon had a special 5 strike combo mode that can transition into grapples that other wrestlers didn't have.
They took all that out for the WWE games which is just another reason why VPW2 absolutely wrecks No Mercy in terms of being a great wrestling game.
even down to the noises it made when you won by submission and you could hear the bone snap it still makes me shudder hearing it today.
