Are submissions still garbage?
I always had to turn them off. Slapping on one random submission 25 minutes into a match and it's over. Nothing screamed epic match like hitting your finish, having your opponent kick out, and then slapping on a headlock to end the match instantly.

I guess we'll have to see.

I would like to see an option in moveset edit, which determines tap outs and limb breaks for each submission move. So the chosen wrestler can get others to tap via Rolling Armbar but not from a chinlock. To stop jerks from slapping 'will submit' on every move, make it cost points for each non-signature / finisher.

If you turn them off then how do you do the old Samoa Joe finish where he puts someone into a muscle buster and then goes into an RNC submission.

Yeah i think unless you have a specific submission set as a finisher or you have your critical or wrestling type set as technical or submission random submissions shouldnt finish the match. there should also be a difference with resting holds and finishing submissions. wwe2k has that pretty much lock down. i think a way in fire pro would be to have set levels on certain moves. like a body slam and powerbomb are on different levels. so should headlock and dragonsleeper. meaninh i shouldnt be able to win a match with a bodyslam no mater how tired the guy is unless its my finisher or he is critical. i shouldnt be able to submit someone with a headlock no matter how tired and hurt he is. unless its set as my finisher. or critical.

I feel like instant tap should be a critical situation only. Like stated above, it's a massive buzzkill to not have a fighting chance during an incredible match, only to have it end via any knockdown or grapple into any submission. It's always been one of my only issues with the fire pro series, and while I love the feature to now move towards the ropes, what's the point if instant tap is a thing?
I'm hoping it would go back to a Super Fire Pro Wrestling X/X Premium system. What happens there is you can put someone in a submission, and it would have no effect, until a few seconds later. That way, even if you really messed up your opponent, you can let go of the submission, before the ref calls it, incase you hit the wrong button on accident.

you were always able to release a submit manually. the submission system is fine, especially when it comes down to what your wrestling stats are. if you are in a long match of course you're gonna be easier to submit, because of the wear and tear of a match, plus the parameter of the character. if you been dropped on your head for 30 minutes why not get be by a headlock? wrestling pshychology 101.

So far, it sounds good, like you can scoot to the ropes in this game. I'd imagine they'll take notice of working a certain part of the body. Submissions could be very OP in this franchise, like I remember Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium on Super Famicom, they had a mode where you beat everyone in the whole game, wrestlers, MMA fighters, and made up characters, and it unlocks everyone. I squashed the whole roster as Vader, and at the end I went against Karl Gotch, I did my usual routine of throwing punches, but he takes me to the mat, and makes me tap to an arm lock in 38 seconds. Undefeated up until getting shot on by a legend. Probably realistic, but not much fun for a game.

Alternatively there was the issue of finishers which were submissions which you'd hit several times but couldn't get the win and the match would end with a bodyslam and pin

Thats not wrestling pshychology 101 because THAT NEVER HAPPENS IN WRESTLING. They give you the illusion of being beaten and tired by selling but matches are rarely over with a random wear down hold. in wrestling headlocks are wear down holds to buy time and set up for the next spot. The only time none finishers win matches are usually with signature moves. Not just a random headlock. Its very anticlimatic when you are having an epic match and its over with a submission thats not your finisher.

exactly. stuff like that need to be tweaked. wwe2k kind of has that aspect down.

Well, putting on a good show is half the fun of a Fire Pro match. If you're just playing to win, than anything goes. But if you want to put on an exciting match, ensure that you don't aim to finish with a basic hold.

I love and have always loved the submission system and hope that they don't change it.

If you are so worried about losing a match by a headlock, then remove headlock from their moveset and only give them more powerful submission holds under signatures or critical.

Give a carrot -- like finishing with a finisher gives you extra of something

There are match rating system, so maybe strong finishes will influence it.
