Is macro bannable?
I got tired of breaking my keyboard spamming A + D, and decided to create a macro, but since I never used a macro on steam I would like to know if it goes against steam or Ghost ship TOS to use a macro for commands such as these, this is my Main account with all my games and years of steam so I really don't want to lose it of course.
Thanks for everyone who responded, seemed like a straight foward question but I appear to have sparked a few conflicts in the comments :steamsad:

There's no anti cheat in this game, they don't give a crap how you play a singleplayer/coop game.

Unless you're explicitly harming the experience of other players (which I believe has only happened once in DRG's history), you have free reign over what you can do in DRG and wont be banned. As for steam, they do not care either, unless you do it in one of their competitive* games, which would show up on your profile.

Macros are considered acceptable in pretty much every game that isn't competitive.

You do realize that the vast majority of Minecraft speedruns make use of a Macro, and speedruns by definition ARE COMPETITIVE by nature.

1. Source?
2. That's fallacious reasoning... just because a square is a rectangle doesn't mean a rectangle is a square.

Watch any speedrun and make note of how quickly the sound of buttons is made, that's the Macro being used to save time on the speedrun.

Yet there's gamers in the Guinness Book of World Records FOR their speedruns, did you honestly believe that only athletes showing impressive skill would be placed in there? Speedrunning is as much as a competition as any other sport, and that community holds it to some very high standards.

You do realize that "competetive games" tend to be ones like TF2 and CSGO, right? Why would we care or be talking about the speedrunning scene of Minecraft?

Nobody asked, go away.

Picking some fringe exception too make you right is a Reddit move. Feel free to go back there.

He didn't say they aren't acceptable in competitive games. He said they are acceptable in non competitive games.

With these mentions of speedruns and the like, reminds me a friend who could play the arcade version of Street Fighters II well enough to do OK in (but not win) competition on the actual cabinet.

I played the game a lot too (very badly) so I spent a moderate amount of time talking to him about the game...

He kept mentioning what to do in terms of frames... you do this on that frame, that on next frame, and react within a frame or two of whatever.

How the F do people do that?

I'm serious. I grew up thinking that human reflexes tended to be the 1/10th of a second range. I'm guess the game was interlaced so therefore in the 1/30th of a second range, but IDK... maybe its was 1/60th of a second frames. (Or even 1/50th since it's not connected to anything else can could be running a European standard.)

But still, any idea how so people manage that type of reaction and perception time. I sure as F can't. (At the time, I think he was in his early 20's and I was about 30.)

I chose to mention a cabinet game because obviously that means they're not running macros, not loading cheats, etc... (As bizzare as the concept may sound, they actually went into the same room and used the same machine to compete... like standing right next to each other IRL and stuff. [Probably how Covid and herpes got started. :steammocking: ] )

I havn't met someone that use a macro to cheat in drg yet, but I did meet a few people that use a macro to spam ping at inhuman speed
BigJ Jun 26, 2023 @ 11:17pm
Just remember, setting up a macro to spam ping mushroom is mandatory.

Honestly, I would use a macro (I used to have one for autoclick) but I uninstalled all the Razer software bloatware.

And how exactly do you know that ^^

You cant tell a macro user from a normal user unless they overuse the macro.

Cheaters arn't very subtle in video games
In that case if I see someone instakilling a boss or an enemy with high health
It would be pretty easy to know that something is up

(also why the hell do you have "promote a dwarf once" and "promote 1 dwarf to silver/gold" at the exact same date)
