Skipping Jeff
Hello, I was wondering if it's possible/there's any kind of mod out there that can just straight up skips chapter 7. I am very weak when it comes to playing horror games, and it is taking 110% of my resolve to play Alyx, but I love it so much. However, I am approaching chapter 7 and I am very aware what that has in store and honestly don't think I can play through it. So I was just wondering if anybody knows any kind of methods to just go from chapter 6 to 8. I know this is a long shot, but I had to try.

TL;DR - I am too afraid of Jeff, is there anyway to skip chapter 7 completely?

Actually though, Im fairly certain you should be able to start a game in another save file and start at any chapter, in this case chapter 8, which will start you with a large amount of resin and ammo, and if you feel like trying again you could go back to your first save file and attempt Jeff.

Not that I'm aware of, other than obtaining a save file from someone that's completed it. I'm not sure if any console commands allow entry directly into a given level.

If nothing else, there's a developer mode that let's you teleport through walls and such. No clue how to activate it but you could use it to just teleport through to the end of the level without doing any of the puzzles.

You might get stuck at the elevator if you do that, though. It's part of a scripted sequence so the elevator might not work without Jeff being there and you might not be able to teleport to the upper level. Worth a shot, though.

Don't skip it. Face the fear. It's a part of the experience, and what makes it enjoyable.

If you absolutely want to ruin the game/experience, however, just run straight at Jeff, waving your hands in the air screaming. Die. Repeat. You'll come to terms with it just being a game.

ryuku is right, just remember it's a game
try picking up some item and personifying it or even attach a personality to jeff like it seems most people do

jeff really isn't incredibly scary, and the chapter is a blast

At least try it before you give up. You seem to be more scared of the prospect of it being scary than you probably will be playing it.

I honestly didn't find it scary at all, just tense.

Make a new save file for chapter 8. it gets rid of your upgrades but you will find 116 resin in your pockets and full ammo for every weapon.

Skipping Jeff is quite the disservice to your Alyx experience. It's really scary the first time, but second play through was easy peasy.
there are speedrunning tricks that are used to skip jeff. so many different ways have been found because great game. but i would try jeff first

Just think that it is just a game :) I found Jeff actually funny to play against and Alyx comments bright up the situation.
Don't worry, take a deep breath and enjoy!

I think the Jeff level deserves some kind of level design award. The coughing mechanic and the elevator scene are both amazing.

The early levels of the game scared me, and I was dreading the Jeff level! Like you, I'd read a lot about it beforehand and the anticipation made me terrified.

It was not half as bad as I thought it was going to be! I panicked a couple of times, but only at the start. Once you get used to way he moves, and how single minded he is, it's easy - it's more of a puzzle than anything else.

Jeff is very logical. He moves towards noise. You make a noise, you move away, he goes to where you were - but you're safe.

I played the level in tiny chunks and gave myself a pat on the back and a well deserved break every time I completed a tiny bit more of the level.

Honestly, I wasn't half as scared during Jeff than I was during Chapter 3, in the sewers, where I was literally shaking with fear at some points. If you're past Chapter 3, you're past the scariest part of the game, in my mind.

Look at a walk through at what you have to do in that chapter. It's not very long and pretty simple. Jeff is also 100% predictable, so unless you keep dropping bottles, he'll never actually bother you.

Remember that Jeff is blind and there are a lot of safe corners to hide. Even if you accidentally drop a bottle or something making a huge noise, if you just move away from the spot and into the corners of the rooms, he won't keep searching. The level is also pretty well-lit for the most part so it is a manageable fear. It could be a lot worst, they could have made Jeff a lot more terrifying, like the monsters in Outlast or Resident Evil, which are games I probably would dread to play in VR. You probably don't want to look at a walk-through and have the chapter spoiled, though.
