body holsters.
yea, im not a big fan of not being able to holster my gun at my hip. is there a option for this or was this comepletly not thought about. if its not, please make at least a way to holster our current weapon. the awsome mechanics in the game make it feel wierd that this wasnt a option

you're not the first one to bring it up, was really surprised when i reflexively went to do this the first time and the gun just dropped to the floor.

would also love to reload clips by whacking the guns back to my sides like in a couple other VR shooters, Alyx has been a bit fiddly and unrewarding when it comes to guns so far.

You can drop the gun? Even when I let go of grip, it just stays in my hand until I select something else.

The guns are so fiddly but it made me panic so much in the dark and those damn headcrabs jumping about!

You can put the gun away by (on the Rift S) pressing and releasing the right thumbstick. It's the same button you hold to get out the multitool.

Hope that helps!

guns are fiddly? the only issue i saw is the lack of a holster. i detest the menu for selecting guns, it instantly takes me out of the immersion.
ALSO theres the fact that i cant just switch hands. wtf happened to alyx that she can only hold the guns with one hand. the ammo can be picked up with either hand....

hopefully if they add a holster, just one on the hip for the weapon you are using, even if i have to use the menu to get it to pop into my holster that would be better.
the best way would be to have a holo thing pop up like im summoning the weapon to my holster.
i stopped to post this, so i havent seen how to reload yet, im assuming with a clip from your belt slots, right...... right.....
i really dont see how the brightest minds at valve didnt notice this, and im not being mean, im just very surprised. i mean its a 60 dollar game, heck even 5 dollar vr games have holsters and can switch gun hands on the fly.

also i cant put a bullet back into my magizine lol. anyways i hope that at the least they fix this glaring issue

edit.... how the hell did you drop the gun. its frigging magnetised to my hand

I hate the weapon selection feature. I am constantly accidentally touching the touchpad and either switching away from the gun I am actively trying to fire, or I'll be trying to pull something towards me, and it will switch to a gun and shoot instead. PLEASE LET ME HOLSTER AT MY HIP, OR UNDER THE ARM. I got so frustrated from this that I just stopped playing multiple times.

I have a bigger issue with having to reach over my shoulder for a fresh magazine.
I keep reaching for ammo in my belt when I need to reload...

oh man, i hope they adress these, those are all good points.
1.body holster
2.waist ammo dispenser
3.switching gun hands, be able to drop guns(oculus rift here)
4.weapon selection

The weapon menu is great. Not every game needs holsters. You would need a full body harness with a bunch of holsters for all your weapons and tools. That's fine for something simulatory like H3 but this is far more arcadey. It's no different than pressing 1, 2, 3, etc for weapons in an old Half-Life game.

ya anyways theres also upgrades need to be turn offable. being that they are permanent i dont want to equip certian ones and not like them 15 hours later. just have it so clicking it agian takes it off but keeps it unlocked

also that may be your opinion, but for us its cuasing us to not want to play the most expensive VR game ive ever bought, and i have all of em lol.
also h3vr has the worst controls out of any vr gun shooting game, so i wouldnt say thats viable to compare. arcadey doesnt equal lack of options and poor design choices. i dont think anyone can defend the over shoulder ammo mechanic, thats just bad design, its exhuasting, and confusing. and the gunplay isnt arcadey, its manual reloading, with alot of emphasis on the physicality of it. the simulating part is there, its the Quality of life stuff that is missing, like not being able to drop your gun or switch hands is very limiting and sometimes frustrating, and clicking the stick to open the weapon menu is very unfreindly and feels awkward at best on oculus touch controllers. the made the game so one armed people can play it which is cool, but the mechanics for two handed players shouldnt suffer over it.
people said the mechanics in this were going to blow boneworks out of the water, and i said i doubt it, becuase the devs arent in touch with the vr community. i mean theres no sprint option at all with smooth locomotion, that shows they added it in last, which it should have been first.

i figured if your going to defend their bad mechanics instead of helping us try to get them fixed for everyone, then i would defend our position.
also where the ♥♥♥♥♥ a crowbar and flashlight.

It's not a poor design choice. The game works perfectly fine. You're talking about preference, not bad design.

People just need to lighten up and play the game as it was made instead of having weird expectations about every little thing. Not having an IK body, not having holsters, not having other insignificant features does not make a game unplayable. Just get used to different games having different features. I don't know why you would want every game to play the same in the first place.

its not uplayable, i just am very underwhelmed by the lack of these things that are missing. the game is amazing. why these things are missing is not making any sense. is there even smooth turning. no.

grabbing ammo off your back is wierd, no game does it becuase its flat out wierd, its not realistic, its just plain wierd. you cant really defend that. i carry everyday, and never have i shoved ammo over my shoulder.
Gunfreak Mar 25, 2020 @ 12:53pm
This is a VR version of a classic style FPS. I'm all for holsters and realism if that's what you want.
But that's not HL. The weapon selection works very well for me on the rift S.
And getting ammo from the backpack was also fast to pick up. And seems to work much more accurately then picking up mags from the hips.
The only down side is that when they went for a classic FPS weapons selection thing. They could have added more guns.
Masamune27858 Mar 25, 2020 @ 8:21pm
well its just when you compare this to all other vr shooters, its mechanics are lacking. hands down theres no argueing that. whats there is GREAT, whats missing is the issue.
Big Sneeze Mar 25, 2020 @ 8:47pm
I've been roleplaying holstering my gun at my hip this whole time. Instead of complaining you should just roleplay. Literally nothing stops you. Move the pistol down where your hip or leg would be and press the button. Done.

In fact, the Pistol is equipped by pressing the button and swinging up, so you're perfectly set-up for role playing exactly what you want, but here you are instead, complaining.
