With the current version of the game you no longer need FAR to fix the game resolution, the patch fixed that issue, follow the guide here to remove old version of FAR(scroll down to "Uninstall outdated versions of FAR") https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=914437196
If you instead need it for other reasons, you need to install Special K(FAR was a version of Secial K specifically made for this game), which has been updated since then to work with the new version of the game.
Also, it said Windows Store version is better and has some exclusive updates. Should I buy it now and where?
That issue has indeed been fixed in the 2021 patch.
The patch did indeed not fix ALL the issues the game had, and has also arguably introduced new ones, but speaking in general, with the old version of the game FAR was almost a requirement, meanwhile after the patch the game runs just fine without FAR.
Also, none of the issues listed in the PCGW page in the "unresolved" section are related to FAR.
As of the 2021 patch, the steam version and the Windows Store version are literally the same game version, those updates in the Windows Store version are the same updates of the 2021 steam patch.
They've made image quality worse with the new patch though, so no, I wouldn't go as far as to say they they fixed what FAR used to. The fixes for AO and Bloom image quality are no longer compatible with the reduced quality shaders the new patch uses.
There are a few new issues introduced, like forced fake HDR, that FAR can turn off. And that resolution problem's really not a problem, whether the patch had fixed it or not, because it's 2024 and nobody should be using Fullscreen Exclusive anymore anyway.
And I think it was the AA that should be disabled as well. There are MSAA x2,..,up to ..x8 I think it was. Just pick the other one besides MSAA.. maybe SMAA??? Doing this from memory, so the letters might be wrong, but you'll know it when you see it.
Those two things make a huge impact on the visual quality of the game and it looks almost as good as I remember it from the FAR days. Good enough to play for me anyway.
