Windowboxing
Why is the game launching at 1080i with windowboxing (incidentally a resolution I didn't even know this display had), and how do I get it to 1080p so it doesn't look terrible? I should note the "look terrible" part is because my monitor doesn't seem to like the 1080i output and does weird and wrong things to it.

The monitor reports what resolution is being requested. In this case it reports 1920x1080@60i

I managed to fix it using a mod called Fix Automata Resolution: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/SpecialK_Mods/discussions/3/1334600128973500691/

The github for that is here: https://github.com/Kaldaien/FAR

It sucks that it's broken by default, but I'm OK with this workaround to play such a game.

Your monitor should have an INFO tab accessible through the config menus that tells you what mode it is currently running in.

Double-check that it’s actually running in progressive scan mode and still not interlaced. On some monitors (like my old TV) the game still outputs as interlaced even with FAR, unless I manually force it to use progressive by setting ScanMode to Progressive in FAR’s dinput8.ini file.

It does at least seem to be using the native progressive scan resolution on my monitor. I couldn't say whether It's actually interlaced or not, but the monitor reports progressive and the image has no windowboxing so I'm good.

Yeah, if the monitor reports it as progressive then it runs in progressive :)
