Also, there’s no need to rename dinput8_default.ini. It is named as such because FAR will automatically use that file to create a new dinput8.ini file if one is missing.
I tried a load of other fixes and only the above worked.
Even if it doesn't work for everyone - it may at least help a few other people.
The error message can be forcefully caused by changing certain parameters of FAR to incompatible values that the game couldn't handle, which seems to have been the case here for you since a reset of the config file solved it.
This is easy to reproduce though, as I've now tested it on both my PCs [specs below]
Both running latest update of Win 10 x64 TH2
PC#1 [main rig]
AMD FX 6100 Hex core
16GB 1866 DDR3 Crucial Ballistix tactical tracer
128GB SSD
Various HDDs [too many to list, but around 10TB in total]
Geforce GTX 970 4GB [3.5GB of course ;-) ]
PC#2 [backup rig]
Intel Xeon E5472 quad core
8GB 800 DDR2 Corsair Dominator
X2 500GB main storage and 160GB Western digital Raptor
AMD R7 360 2GB
