Game previously worked, suddenly won't launch

tried updating graphics drivers, verifying game cache, running steam in admin, running the .exe in admin and in win7 compatibility mode and it just won't launch any more. any idea what's going on?

Fixed it for me.. Opened up the SKIM thing or whatever it's called and changed from main to compatability and hit merge. Opened right up after that..

It's been what, 24 days now? there's not been a patch, and i still havent found any miraculous fix and i have no clue how to access any kind of crash logs (even FAR doesn't kick any out, it just abruptly cuts off)
does anyone have ANYTHING at all?

okay ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WOW, i figured something out here. the game launches now. I opened the properties of the .exe, went to compatibility and set it to run as admin and now it launches. thank god.

I have noticed some changes too recently.

The game used to work just fine when it was released, but recently I'm getting these sudden/random but thankfully short frame rate drops. This I can still handle.

The real annoyance that has appeared recently is the random freezing, making the game "not respoding" and forcing me to boot the game. This freezing wouldn't be such a hassle if the game had autosave mechanic, but since you have to manually save your progress (which I like), it gets to your nerves whenever the freezing happens as you lose all your progress prior to your last save.

Do you try to verify integrity of game files? (right click on nier in library and go to proprties\local files)
I have the same problem as you have. I did it, and it helped me.

tried reinstalling, verified files, admin previleges... i even deleted the config forder and nothing

i found the rat!!!
For those who use nvidia the problem resides on the geforce experience program...
has soon as you run the game the first time it is added to the optimization folder, when you exit the game and re enter it, the automatic optimization tool, whether it's on or off, crashes the exe!!
The solution is: uninstall the geforce experience and the game will run!!
if you install it again the game will stop working!!!

Use FAR to fix that, it can block GeForce Experience.

Happened to me too, steam launches the game, but after that it just sits there with 0% usage

Happening to me right now, worked fine months ago, I have over 120 hours, tried to launch today and all I get is a white windowed screen that doesn't respond. When I open Task Manager after launching the game (through steam or through direct .exe), it instantly shows up as "Not Responding". CPU usage is not 0% however.

Verified game integrity, updated drivers, restarted Steam and computer, tried both FAR "Old" and "Main" branches, nothing. Only thing I haven't tried yet is a complete reinstall.
