Why is everyone so antsy about the graphics?
Fuc king double standards. With Shi tty 8 bit retro games they turn a blind eye. It seems like everyone forgot they are going for a 1995/6 looking game. Heck even some people think it looks worse than Quake 1. I think everybody forgot that Hardware Accelerated Quake 1 does look better, but they forgot that Software mode Quake existed before it and it looks reminiscent of that. The graphics are fine and I seriously hope you guys don't severely overhaul it. Whatever happened to, "graphix don mater only gaemplay". Dam double standards.

I think everyone is forgetting that graphics isn't everything. The way I see it, graphics are always only a bonus. I'd rather have a smooth, playable, and stable game with 90s graphics than a modern game with 2016 graphics that crashes, stutters, and is filled with bugs.

I think a lot of the complains about the graphics are :steamfacepalm: but some are valid.

Ideally we want DUSK to look like software rendered Quake 1 at it's worst and modded source port Quake 1 at its best.

And we still have a LONG way to go :D:

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! Damn if that was shown, most would STFU.
To be quite frank about it.. I don't give a ♥♥♥♥ wether the graphics look like crap, if there is proper level design which calls for navigational skills in order to succeed.

yea high def rendering i s fairly easy to achieve but awesome retro fps quality level design thats really hard to achieve.

Most of the environments seen in the trailer are rather simple compared with what's ultimately going to be in the game, and I think some people are reacting to that. Others' memories of the polycount and texture resolution of Quake etc seem to be decidedly rose-tinted.

There are also a lot of graphical options (and more to come) which will allow players to opt for a high-res experience with modern visual effects, or an authentic software-rendered look. And everything in between.

Will there be mod tools (which should alleviate the problem, since I see most bashing the low poly models and weapons) or level editor?

Possibly. Looking into both.

Yeah, I think people are reacting too hard and I'm sure another trailer or a good blast of screenshots later in development would calm things down.

People don`t understand the concept of graphics, graphics are more the visual representation of the game, only if the graphics are unrecognisable in what they represent or they sell themselves as current gen when looking last, only then can it truly be called poor graphics.
Otherwise any arguements about graphics are as daft as arguing to an artist that their painting is not a photograph, not to mention, todays graphics will look laughable next year.
Therefore, as someone who has actaully played an oldschool shooter from the 1990s, this is fairly authentic and the art style is very intriguing.

@shaggy,

I think the issue might be a specific style, but games can have fairly simple graphics and yet be awesome, case in point, Brutal Doom. So far Brutal Doom looks better than Dusk, however I am following this game closely as I wish to see how it develops, perhaps our contributions will make it even better!

Brutal Doom uses sprites and has more smoothed and refined sprites than the original DOOM or most games made on the build engine, not to mention it`s 2.5, not Full 3D like quake which uses 3d models which were very new to the fps scene and less time to refine. Brutal Doom isn`t really a product of the 1990s, it`s a fresher look at DOOM in terms of mechanics and graphics while trying to maintain what DOOM is, therefore, a rather poor and uninformed comparison, Im sorry that Im missing the point and I have no ill will toward your opinion, graphics are complicated and from what I`ve seen, there will be tonnes of graphic modes and filters to suit your style. But from my experience, making assets and textures is very time consuming, you have to commit to the decision or end up wasting time, potentially money, and in the end, most of us are here for the gameplay and if the graphics communicate the gameplay well, and you understand what you see, can you complain?
