What is the inspiration for the bone ball's design?
One thought I had is that it might be inspired by polyhedrons in Escher's works, Waterfall being a good example. Since there's a whole level referencing his work I thought it wouldn't be too much of a stretch.

Huh, I hadn't even made the connection between the bone balls and MC Escher. This despite there being a level named after him and the house I live in looking like one of his sketches. Guess I'm the worst Dutchman.

I always thought they were meant to be the egg cells of Mabuka from Fran Bow, given you first find them in a fleshy growth area in the crypt.
