How in God's name does one beat "The Dweller in Darkness"
Okay, so I'm normally decent enough at this game in order to get a tough level done, but this one is just damn impossible. First, the only way to skip the level is to do a really complex and frustrating Crossbow Jump onto a teleporter, and the way to really beat the level is to deal with utter ridiculous bullcrap. An actual level with keyhunting and good structure is too hard to make, so let's put in a one map level with waves of enemies spawning like a braindead triple A title. Nevermind the fact that on the third wave, it's completely unbeatable because there's nothing from those ♥♥♥♥♥♥,N homing cultists' that you'll be able to avoid. I've been at this one stupid level for nearly 5 hours. What are some tips so I don't punch my damn monitor?

Man, this had to have been my favorite level in the entire game. How could you not love it? Rhetorical since you already listed your gripes.

Mortars and the riveter are your friend while using jump pads. If I remember correctly, you had the mad doctors running around with the red cultists and their homing fireballs. Run around in a huge circle on the edge of the map while using the jump pads and launching bombs at the red guys. The key to this entire level is to never stop moving and use your enemy's attacks against one another. A lot of the waves, you can get them to fight each other making it a lot easier on yourself. If you get in a pickle, jump off the edge of the map, you just respawn back uptop, you don't die

U can make the horming cultist fireballs hit the scientist, then rifle them one by one while hump-jumiping

Thanks. That worked. Finally beat the game too

You don't have to crossbow jump to skip it :)

Also jump off the map that helps.

Also just mostly let things kill each other

Try deflecting the homing fire balls with the sickles :)

Was about to say that, crossbow jump not needed to reach the teleporter ;)
I personally didn't like the level either, luckily the devs were kind enough to give us the option to skip it quite easily. Need to go back to get the completionist thingy tho.

is this that nightmare realm with just seeming endless enemies spawning? god that felt like it went on forever. I found bounce pads + explosives worked really well.
I know it's cheap, but I got through by quicksaving in-between waves

I stumbled upon a pretty clever secret that makes the map quite easy to complete.

Use your eyes... sometimes staring into the abyss yields incredible rewards...

i also gotta chime in and say i really didn't like this level either

dusk is great but a horde based area on a level that's a lazy lump of floating geometry with a horrible looking animated texture put on it just isn't fun

i beat it on my 2nd try but yeah it was pretty bad

Just beat it on Duskmare Intruder mode, but I just too badass so it doesn't count.

Basically I quicksaved every 2-3 kills lol.

Are you talking E3M9?

With the homing red fireballs, you can:
A) fall off the map to drive the orbs down, (you are teleported back in,)
B) lure the orbs into enemies,
C) be bunnyhopping diagonally for two separate speed buffs,
D) BIG TIP, have 50 or more Morale to be able to deflect with your sword.

I struggled for a while, but I was able to beat it with enough practice. My tips:

1) Keep moving. Enemies (Soldiers, Scarecrows, etc) always fire at your last position. Make sure to move and group them so there are all firing in 1 direction
2) Save Missiles, Hunting Rifle Ammo, Grenade Launchers and Rivets for heavier enemies
3) Jump off the map. You will teleport back into it
4) Memorize which enemies spawn when and where

Jump off the map and the homing fireballs in particular will all slam into the floor.
