Linux Request sign up sheet
With the Vulkan work coming to an end, we are considering the port to Linux.

If you are interested in a Linux version, please sign here.

Update: 9/29/2019:
Ok we have it ported now. So good news and bad news. We have it running Debian and we presume it'll work on others. But the bad news is that the performance is just not acceptable. This is mainly due to the game being developed prior to Vulkan. It's all doable to fix but we don't have the budget to make those kinds of changes for one platform.

The difference based on the video card set up is pretty drastic too (not blaming any video card drivers here but the variance is pretty huge and would result in some unhappy people).

The good news is that Ashes II (and our other new titles) should, in theory, ship with Linux support off the bat thanks to this effort.

Those of you who are familiar with Stardock know we came from the OS/2 world back in the day so we are very much motivated to make our games work on Linux too. Just a matter of having enough resources to do it.

Thank you for your support on this. The sign up sheet helped us push through getting budget to do the initial port which should have benefits long-term for all our games not being so tied to Windows in the future.

Update: 12/28/2018:

We now have the core engine compiling under Debian Linux and running via Vulkan. We still have a long, long way to go but this is a major step. Thanks for your continued interest and support!

So good news, we are running on Linux. Bad news, working on Vulkan performance and with AMD/NVIDIA. Stay tuned.
How is the second one bad news? - This is wonderful :)

I think they mean it's gonna take some time before it releases. Anyway, that's still good news as it means they want to deliver a finished product.

Not only that, they aren't doing it alone it seems. I'm thinking this might be bigger than just getting one game onto a new platform.

That would be a walk in the park with AMD:
https://www.stardock.com/games/starcontrol/article/490698/stardock-extends-technology-and-gaming-partnership-with-amd
```
Plymouth, MI. August 28, 2018 – Today Stardock Entertainment announced the extension of their technology and gaming partnership with AMD (NASDAQ: AMD). As part of the ongoing partnership, Stardock will optimize the upcoming Star Control: Origins for AMD technologies including AMD Ryzen™ processors and Radeon FreeSync™ 2 technology, as well as update the game post-launch with support for the Vulkan™ Graphics API.
I think you are miss understanding. There isn't a DLC for Linux. I was just saying that I'd be willing to pay for something like that. They'll surely be porting at no cost to us.
When is it going to be native to linux?
I've been burned doing that in the past. I skipped buying, despite the great sale price, because I've not seen much any response from the devs here on the thread THEY created. I'll buy when I see the native Linux version.
I mean he did gave a update one page ago, but it's probably still a while off since optimising could take quit a while...
Mebbe I just been bit once too many times by buying too soon. Meh... Not as if I can't wait patiently for it to arrive (or not)... I already got TONS of Linux games here on Steam, and more available daily, so... I'll wait, despite the good price currently on Humble Bundle for this game. If it means I pay a little extra down the road then so be it. Better than stuck with another bitrotting game in my library waiting for a port or Proton suppot.
Some people have had quite a bit of luck it this game and Proton. I am not one of them (game crashes when I load saves), but I seem to be in the minority.
Yeah, that sounds like a great idea. It would definitely widen the community by allowing people that only support FOSS operating systems/software to play. This also would support your legacy as a company. You were the first game developer to develop a game with DirectX 12 support and one of the very first companies to support Vulkan. Going the direction of linux reinforces the concept that your innovative and willing to challenge and change the gaming enviroment for the better. You have my vote.
Yeah, I know. It was related to a previous post where they were talking about the DLC and that was quite funny. I'm quite sure the Linux port will be part of the standard package. :)
