The current system requires a connection to Shift at all times, so we we can have "a centralized experience and support play across multiple PC platforms". Yay! Just what nobody who had the game wanted.
I suspect the recent requirement to make a new SHIFT account is actually creating an account on the Epic system, so that the whole BL series are moved to an always online system. If the connection gets broken, even in solo play, BAM! back to the main menu while it tries to re-establish a connection.
This bs that has been imposed on us really needs to go, or at the very least made optional. There is no need for a single player game (as described on the Steam store page) to always be connected to a central server. Their "centralized experience" gives us nothing at all.
Agreed, except for the last statement. Cross-play is great as it helps keep communities alive. A lot of regular players from other online games would love to have cross-play but unfortunately, it came to a point with those games where that's not even possible anymore (e.g. Warframe).
The problem isn't the centralized experience, but that Gearbox clearly have no clue what they're doing. For starters, the Shift account is a joke.
I totally agree that connecting should be optional, but I believe cross-play is a great step. Gearbox just need to figure out how to do it properly, cuz this ain't it.
I have and would upvote if i could
And I don't think they care. Look at the reviews for the last DLC and the justified reason behind them. That DLC still have a high price tag for what it is.
Oh wait..
Crossplay with the consoles would be worthwhile as there are people who want to be able to do so. That is not what they have done here.
Their new always connected "experience" currently gives us nothing. Being able to connect to some vague Epic community of BL2 players in the future? Sketchy excuse at best, and really should be optional. Having what they have imposed on us, without any opt-out? Nah.
Open a ticket with 2K support and let them know there are issues. They don't get a ticket, there is no problem as far as they are concerned.

There were three server outages today:

Ridiculous.
BL3 players were also affected.
