Hitching/Stuttering every 5 seconds
This morning after a small download, my game has been having a stutter every 5 seconds... literally every five seconds. In the menu screen, in game... it has made the game unplayable. The sound doesn't stutter, just the video. I can't really aim because of it, which is a game-breaker.

I have done some research and found this to be a very old problem... but I never had the problem before today.

I tried verifying my local files. I tried lowering resolution. I tried turning VSync off. I tried fullscreen, windowed, and fullscreen windowed. I tried restarting my modem. I tried running in offline mode. I tried with my VPN on and my VPN off. I tried turning "Fullscreen Optimization" off in the .exe file properties.

Then I tried a full uninstall/reinstall.

Nothing has worked. I've found no answer so far that works.

Are others experiencing this? Is there a fix?

I'm a Korean user. I'm feeling the same thing from today. It wasn't all that bad until yesterday, but I'm playing the game today, and it's still stuttering from the start.

Literally the game was running fine yesterday and it stutters heavily today. I can't even connect online to play with my friend

Same here, man. It seems whenever the servers are down it stutters. Could it be the game trying to reconnect or something? Hope it's fixed soon, though.

same issue, was running fine yesterday & only seems to be the PC release effected as I also have it on PS4 & that's fine.

This fixed the stuttering for me. Not an ideal solution, but what can we do if Gearbox doesn't care?

I can tell you that shouldn't be the issue. The other day I was having some problems with my connection, so the game started in offline mode (tried to connect, failed due to my speed being almost non-existent, so it went straight to offline). It didn't try to reconnect, nor was there stuttering cuz of that.

Same here. Actually it doesn't matter if can't go online, but periodically FPS drop really bother me. It's happen only when in Offline and LAN mode.

Yes, this is exactly the problem.

The game tries to "poll" the Shift servers every couple of seconds. This results in stutters or mini-freezes as soon as the Shift servers are suffering from connection issues. Extremely annoying. You can avoid these stutters by playing in offline mode (not offline in-game, it doesn't work and the game will still try to poll the servers, so start Steam in offline mode - not just friend visibility - fully restart Steam in true offline mode), or by completely disconnecting from the internet.

Terrible. They should just roll back all these recent changes and let Steam handle the online connections like before.

How certain are you of this? Not trying to cast doubt in any way, I'd just like to know since apparently there's a way to roll back the SHIFT nonsense I got hijacked into. It seems convoluted though, and I'd like to make sure before I make the attempt.

(Can't believe I booted up one of my favorite games ever only to have the BL3 dumpster fire spill over to BL2 as well. Not impressed with GBX right now.)
