Do gold keys ruin the game?

I just bought handsome collection. I was comforted by the fact that it is a multiplayer series because multiplayer games you cant just type in a cheatcode and have godmode (unless you are intentionally hacking)

So after buying handsome collection i heard about "Gold keys'. These are keys that give you acess to the best weapons in the game instantly.

But thats fine because they are most likely limited, or hard to aquire or something like that.

But then i saw a video where a guy simply kept backing up/restoring his savefile so he always had 75 keys AND got to keep all the items in the chest.

PLEASE tell me this is a cheat that only borderlands1 players can use. I might refund the entire handsome collection if you can cheese through the games this easily

Its incorrect in a big part. He not cheated but used exploit with tweaking game files. Usually new codes are being given/were given each 2-3 weeks for keys.

Golden chest that needs golden keys ARE NOT best weapons in game. If you are lucky you will get a good one but most of them still fails anyways and is being sold.

Golden chest best use is when your equipment is too old to be usable on enemies cause they have much higher lvl than your guns have. Then you can get some push by spending a key or 2 ( or more...around 250 keys is max capacity for normal non-exploit players )

Also even if you consider that game to be not for you becaue you can cheese so easly by exploits etc then there is simple answer.

It is not a multiplayer game and there are plenty of mods and cheats.

Gold keys are super easy to get, you can easily get 255 keys right now if you sat down and put all the codes into shift. They are not game breaking weapons (just purples you can find any where) but they can make the rest of the loot feel cheap if you use it them while playing through normal or tvhm while leveling. It is up to you to judge your own use of the keys, I personally try to use one every time I enter sanctuary or level up just as a nice little treat but if you constantly use them while leveling then you'll definitely make the game to easy/boring. But they are definitely a must have for UVHM if you don't want to farm for hours.

Best in the game is a bit of a stretch.

Between UVHM's mechanics and the often samey loot from drops and shops, I see it as an equalizer, to get some kind of upgrade to your equipment when the RNG just refuses to oblige.

1) they are mediocre items that are far more useful in the early game, and don't compare to legendaries at all.

The stuff in that chest is middling gear at best. It's the BL1 remaster golden chest that contains legendaries.

Oh boy, someone clearly lied to you.

I have like 300 keys and no desire to use them. Not because they are too powerful and make game too easy but because they are mediocre.
Gear from golden chest will be quite useful early in game (or at least can serve as some nice money boost) but in general it's really nothing special.

Honestly you need millions to make a difference. Even with the keys you are unlikely to get much from them. I seem to remember saving up a load and was really disappointed with what I got.

Man, simply join coop game and every chest will give you purple weapons +tonns of eridium, and there will be no need to waste keys on some mediocre loot.

thanks man this gave me relief. Im enjoying the first game quite a lot right now.

My worry wasnt if i can cheat or not, its if others can cheat because i want to get into the online component of borderlands after i complete BL1. And i imagine it wouldn't be a very fun game if my whole team was just steamrolling enemies with overpowered weapons that they got from tacky golden chests.

If you are playing only with modders... In normal coop lobby there is actually no, to very little differnce in loot.
