Borderlands 3 being tied to dedicated servers will prevent cheating or save file sharing
Meaning you can't hack it as everything will be server side. You can't borrow someone save file aswell, as it will all be in the cloud.

This will allow others a great opportunity to farm for what they want without having to cheat

Just because you can cheat doesn't mean you have to cheat.

And, as has already been explained to you, dedicated servers have a lot of drawbacks.

They require continual investment by either Gearbox (or more likely) 2K. Eventually, 2K will decide they've reached the point of diminishing returns and will shut them down. Which means the game will cease to be playable at that time.

Peer-to-peer will continue to function fine for years and years to come.

The constant financial drain will push 2K to use more predatory Micro-transactions. Predatory MTX are the bane of gaming.

Hacking is a constant. There is no point ever where anti-hacking measures will ever be enough. If a company chooses to go down that rabbit hole, then they're on the hook for all those costs. Accepting up front that anti-hacking is something that can only receive a very limited investment from 2K/Gearbox and instead using the Peer-to-peer seen in BL2 and BL:TPS makes the entire thing much more financially manageable.

And finally: The games of the franchise are single player games. Co-op is optional but unnecessary. I don't want my single player game to require an always online connection simply because you don't want to make a group of like-minded friends to play with.

i mean, dark souls 2 uses servers and they are still up to this day, but i guess the times have changed

Okay.

However, Namco Bandai Games =! Take Two Interactive.

Regardless, I'm not saying that they might not keep servers up for years, I'm saying that any game with dedicated servers has an expiration date stamped on its forehead that a peer-to-peer game does not.

Bad idea.

Ded servers only means i need to be constant online.
Not liking that.
Also i see barly a need for them.
Casurin Jun 24, 2019 @ 9:12pm
No modding and even worse gaming experience, forced to staying online and no actula benefits to the player as all the other games have shown that it does bugger all against those that want to cheat.

Agree with you on all points. I do like having servers in some situations (fast PVP games, eg FPS,RTS), but then they should be private and/or optional. The way BL2 and TPS work .. works.

Is it really going to require always on, even for single-player? (Source?) That's a dealkiller for me, as much as I loved BL2 and poured tons of time in ...
Mez Koo Jun 24, 2019 @ 11:23pm
They wouldn't dare have always online servers, first they've already said there will be offline play, second they're already losing people to the exclusive deal.
gamename Jun 25, 2019 @ 12:27am
OK, that's good, makes sense.

It's an exclusive launch day though, but Steam will get it 6 months later, right? Annoys people, and there's the holiday timing, but long term you really think many people will stay away? Might take a while, but I'd think plenty of people will get it eventually. I assume we're waiting a while for a Linux port, so I'll be waiting regardless.

By the time a dedicated server expires for a particular game nobody on planet earth would even care about it again so your point is invalid

COD 2 and battlefield 2 dedicated servers are still running to this day

Even Modern Warfare 2 servers are currently running even tho nobody cares to play

In any event it doesnt matter what you think BL3 is coming with Dedicated servers regardless if you like it or not

Don't believe that crap

https://steamcharts.com/app/6060

Average of 300 to 500 players daily which is dead by any standard.

Dead game is Dead.

Case in point with BL 1 just like how BL 2 killed BL 1 so too will BL3 kill BL 2

300 to 500 players is what Injustice 2 averages out on PC and that game is completely dead.

BL3 is coming with dedicated servers since weapon skins are a thing and they aren't going to let you cheat with save files to get free cosmetics.

Believe what you want but I have yet to see a company in the modern age sell skins without the use of some form of dedicated servers / cloud networking etc.

BL3 plans to make money with skins they even have gold skins you can pay more for, I do not in anyway see this being unlocked for free with offline save files.

BL3 is 99.9% likely to have server side saving and management of accounts.

The positive thing about this is you won't be tempted to cheat with save files etc. This is a positive thing you can actually play the game fair now and you will get more hours out of it. There is no fun in downloading free save files with everything already unlocked and there is no point in playing and grinding when you can get it free with 0 effort.
