But yeah at the current moments its probably best not to draft unless you want the fun of drafting
That is not how draft should work.
And according to the patch notes I THINK (much speculation at this point) that they have raised the chance of gtting cards
It's not that you got 1500 gold entry fee back at 2-3 wins. You got a token and ~500 gold, so you essentially bought a token for the usual 1000 gold, and with some more wins you got another few hundred gold or some shards/rubies extra, basically getting a discount on the token, until like 7-8 wins I'd guess.
What's the problem with that? Lets say you just got 4-3. That's 7 games, maybe they took ~3-4 minutes each and it takes a bit to find an opponent, so lets say you played for 30 minutes. I don't know the exact reward structure from before the patch, but from personal experience you got something like 1 token, 600-800 gold and sometimes some shards/rubies at 4-3. Since the entry fee was 1500, you payed 700-900 gold for a token and some extras. For 30 minutes investment? I wouldn't call those rewards crazy at all.
When the Devs mentioned some weeks/months ago that they are changing the Draft reward structure I was looking forward to it because I thought the rewards were getting better. I never thought they would make this game-mode even less attractive to players, especially because not many people played draft anyway. Even in Hearthstone, which in other parts has a far more greedy reward structure/payment model, playing arena there is actually worth it.
I love the low rewards, there is no pressure now, draft is finally the mode it was meant to be, just a casual thing you play for fun.
Draft was used to grind out every single purchasable thing in the game and I doubt that was the original intention, now you get one free entry, which is more than a casual player needs, but if you want to grind, you will have much harder time.
Had the first version of draft have these rewards, it would have probably been ok w/ everybody, but since it is something that was taken away, ppl miss it, which makes sense, but the previous version was just WAY to good for grinding.
You're talking like the one free entry per day is staying forever, but it's not. It's an event for a week, after that you pay 750 gold or 55 (?) rubies per entry.
Can't talk for everyone, but it wouldn't have been ok for me. I found the rewards before the patch barely acceptable (I'm talking about mid-tier rewards, not 12 win rewards). And I assume so did many people, because draft was a game mode with few players and sometimes minute long queues. Why make that game mode even less attractive?
Well, I had no idea, well, then I guess I have one more week of playing this game and then I´ll just quit, cos those rewards are not worth 750 gold and all my decks are gone, cos I just can´t keep up with the constant balance changes and new cards/masters.
Well, thanks for the sad info :( .
The above is the average of the rewards based on their chest converted to gold. Supreme and Legendary are marked with a '*' because those averages are based on the chances of each reward being even chance, and they most certainly are not (the others are done the same way, but the effect of card value is significantly less). For the values of each currency to gold, the numbers were based on cost of packs for rubies to gold and cost of masters for rubies to shards and finally a comparison of the values for shards to gold. The card values are based on 'Cost to Craft' or 'Value from Salvage'.
This above block is the average value of each set of wins based on the previous numbers. Card value based on Cost to Craft. Again, win values involving Supreme and Legendary chests (10-12) are indicated with a '*' to denote that they are not accurate. Regardless, 10-12 are still worth more than 9.
Looking at these numbers we can see that in order to break even in raw value, you're looking at needing 7 wins and that it is now impossible to play draft for an infinite amount of time.
Hopefully all this information helps fuel the discussion a bit more.
I received from a 12-0 run: 1 common card, 27 shards, 133 gold, 1 token
I see that the devs had to lower the rewards. I used to play draft and received in average more money than it costed, and had the tokens and shards as big bonus. I've got all cards by now and lots of gold, so i dont need to "earn" more in draft, BUT this rewarding system is just a joke. It's not worth the time you spend.. - for the one free run per day maybe yes, but not for gold/rubys
In my oppinion the solution is somewhere in the middle ;)
Similar with shards, I consider them far more valuable than 6.5 gold. You can get the exact legendary want for 2000 shards, yet probably won't get it with 50000 gold worth of packs. Given the normal way to get shards is salvaging cards, the true value of a shard is based on the average shards you get from a pack if you were to just blindly salvage whatever you get.
Based on this video you get 58.5 shards per pack, thus 58.5 shards every 1000 gold spent. Each shard is then worth ~17 gold.
So I'll redo the math. Assuming a shard is worth 17 gold, a ruby is at the very least worth 32 since even if you don't care about cosmetic stuff, you can buy masters with rubies and save your shards for cards.
So then the average rewards, assuming you want every card:
If you just salvage every card, then:
So admittedly in this latter case, the rewards aren't good, especially because people who have mostly full collections just want rubies for cosmetic stuff and gold to continue playing draft.
So my 3 suggestions are thus:
1) Raise rewards very slightly across the board, to make it a little more worth for players with lots of cards already
2) At 7 wins and up, one of the rewards should be a 750 gold, so dedicated draft players can play again.
3) Epic and legendary chests should have a chance to give rubies. It doesn't have to be as much as before. 20 and 60 for epic and legendary, respectively, should be fine.
Also the original goal of the draft rewards was to significantly reduce the ruby reward from draft (the rest just came down as a consequence). As such, I believe they should have taken it a step further and just straight removed rubies as a reward from draft altogether.
Memfisto was also saying he'd still like the ability to "earn" premium rewards. Personally, i'd prefer just recolors to be earned in game when it comes to skins (a.k.a. purchasable with shards).
Pulling from Gamer's stream he believes that there should either be a guaranteed card or token every run. Abd the ability to earn more cards should still be there. Also believes that it's perfectly fine to have the cost of draft to go back up to compensate.
I believe this is my biggest concern with the new draft rewards. The problem that you can no longer play draft indefinitely, you must leave it at some point (or buy rubies I guess). Which I'd say that's ok, but I feel like most aren't willing to do that.
