CD key not working

Just bought the game from a local shop and it says the code is not valid.
is this a steam problem or is the code already used?
I tried some hkey veryfiyng with regedit but it didnt work.
Note: i cant install the game the normal way cuz my disc-reading-device is broken

Are there any warning with an authentic certification of Steam on the back of the box ?
If not,you bought a retail version which is not required Steam to run with.
If you still want to play the game on Steam using Steam overlay and such things,just add non-steam game on the library.

same problem with my copy. mine is a copy from steam. cd key not working :/

Make sure you type,usually capital letters and give space when needed or hifen when requested.

Problem solved, i made an account on GOG and the key works there.

I bought it on GOG: no keep required; no DRM, unlimited dowload...
