So, uh, what's going on with the Sniper's voice actor?
I noticed in Expiration Date that he conspicuously doesn't seem to have any voiced lines, and I can't tell if the Heavy's one line during the fight is already one of his lines in-game.

Did something happen to either of their voice actors?

Either they weren't available, or didn't need any voices done.

In case you don't know, most of the actors didn't really role play much. I'm guessing that the Scout actor and Spy role played the others?

Well the heavy's voice actor can't do the demo's voice anymore, and the original voice actor for the engineer's dead.

Makes sense.

Still, this brings up a thought best left unthought: What happens if a voice actor in a continually updated game can no longer add new voice clips with the others, for whatever reason, be it by pay talks falling through, accidents, or passing away? How would Valve handle that? Is there precedence for that kind of thing in any popular video game series elsewhere, and if so, what happened?

I think most of the actors didn't really participate, and that Valve probably wanted to make the SFM much interesting, and not boring.

some simply couldn't do the voices anymore, for vaious reasons. the most well-known reason for at least one of them was that soldier's voice actor has cancer of the throat. other voice actors may have just been busy with other works.

The Engie's voice actor isn't dead he is still kicking.

You appear to be misinformed. Grant Goodeve (Engineer) is very much alive and Gary Schwartz (Heavy and Demo) apparently provided new lines for the update.

The answer to why Sniper and Heavy didn't have lines in Expiration Date may be as simple as the plot didn't need them to say anything.

Considering that Expiration Date had Nolan North not only voice the Engineer but some of the Soldier's lines, I think the answer is obvious.

They replace them.

I heard Nolan North voiced him in ED.

Obviously the only logical assumption is that all the voice actors that did no lines for expiration date all have cancer.
