Heavy and Sniper are kinda in that weird zone where they are and aren't insane. Heavy because he's silent, stoic and keeps to himself but when out on the field he's happy, enjoying mowing down other mercs and actively laughs about everything.

Sniper is reclusive and tends to think unnaturally high of himself and his job. He just kinda throws jars of his own piss at people. No one sane throws jars of their own piss at people.

I think medic is more insane than pyro, mainly because pyro sees everything different to everyone else, medic actually knows what he’s doing

demoman, engie, and heavy at the bottom for sure. Demoman's always drunk, but other than that, he's a reasonable guy. Engineer's always calm and collected, but loves his buildings a little too much. Everyones putting heavy in the middle, but you should read the comics. In there, he shows his smart side. He loves his family and has a doctorates (if thats how you spell it) degree in Russian literature.

Medic, Pyro, and soldier are all pretty obvious candidates for the top, but i think soldier is just flat out stupid.

Also, have you checked out spy's domination lines? He uses middle school level insults. Also likes to mimic people like a child. But, he and heavy are easily the most sane as protrayed in the comics. Sadly, engineer and pyro have seen very little action in said comics.

Note : Demoman is the least insane in my view because of the fact that he's mostly wasted/drunk as ♥♥♥♥♥
And Pyro is 2nd most insane because of his goggles making his view on the battlefield not like a battlefield.

Spy (Doesnt seem insane at the least. Just doing what he is paided to do)

Engineer (Has some OCD as he relays almost anything about his buildings being destoryed)

Demoman (Just drunk, but does say some midly disturbing things for domination quotes or with sticky kills)

Sniper (Way to prideful, throws bottles of piss. And thinks of himself highly and others not so much)

Heavy (I wouldnt say heavy is to insane, he seems fine in the comics and has a PHD in russian literacy, but kinda laughing whilst shooting people does mark him a tad insane)

Medic (Although his Megalomania and his sadistic attitude can mark him insane, Soldier and pyro beat him out regardless)

Soldier (Literal Maniac, has hallucationations, delusions, and is easily excited and at one point went on his own war campaign)

[An Easy Target]

I've honestly been thinking about this myself, and I have to say I'm really glad to see a thread about it!

I'm a bit too tired to give my outright ranking right now. I do have one thing I really want to say, though:

I have to disagree with the general placement of Scout in the middle or toward the mad side. Each of us have our own definition for madness, I know; mine is a measure of relationship with reality and mental consistency, rather than of violence.

My opinion: You can be perfectly sane and still be a cruel, crass jerk. Most real-world mobsters are like that. Most extremist groups are like that. Plenty of troubled youth and violent punks are like that.

Such is the case, I think, with Scout. The guy grew up in a low-income neighborhood plagued with violent crime, among a slew of brothers who were always play-fighting at home and actually fighting in the streets; of course he's going to have adapted in the only way he knew how. That has nothing to do with his perception of reality or how "normally" his brain is arranged.

I can't place all the others perfectly yet, but I really do think that Scout belongs at the "most sane" end of this list. With the possible exception of that imaginary Miss Pauling scene in Zhana's room in the comics, Scout very rarely hallucinates. He knows what he's doing, what's going on around him, and, in fact, his signature cocky and jerky style really seems like how a sane person in his line of work would try to cope with it.

That, and, surprisingly, he actually seems collected and coherent- at least, as much as he himself can be- when he's not fighting. Expiration Date showed this off pretty well. Scout had some of the most reasonable responses in that whole thing; even now I remember the differences between Scout's, Heavy's, and Soldier's behaviors during the intercom call with Miss Pauling as being one of the most defining, memorable elements of the entire short film. Scout tends to give practical responses that come from a consistent place; Soldier, on the other hand, is bragging about having utterly blown the mission.

Scout is just too immature to be called insane because he is still a high schooler (or college?) With school jokes that makes him out from insanity. Although he is dumb.

Soldier, no words for war fanatic american.

Pyro is just insane when he uses the pyrovision. Although the concept of burning people is already bizzare to begin with.

Demoman is being drunken scottish on the battlefield, so give it neutral. However, the possesion of Eyelander makes it a plus to insanity.

Heavy is not that insane because killing people is his "full time job" and he enjoys it. Like people with their "dream job". Also doesn't he have PhD?

Engineer is just doing his job. Relaxing while the turrets doing the rest of the killing and defense is his work and least insane thing to do.

Medic, with his discovery of medi gun and the medical licence he lost it from his hospital days makes quite the reason he is an insane person.

Sniper, like he said, he is not a crazed gunman, he is an "assasin". What's the difference between one's a job and another one's a mental sickness? Although he is throwing piss, and it's a bizzare thing to do.

Spy, being the most gentleman merc and least sane because everything he said makes sense every time in every situation.

Oh yeah almost definitely, another thing is that some people think engine is saner than spy but spy hasn’t actively cut off part of his body for robot attachments
