vastly increase sublight default speed
The universe is now huge; that's great.
However the travel speed is SLOW, even with full sublight and all power to engines.

It takes me 1-3 minutes just to get to a freelance mission IN THE SAME SECTOR.
This is incredibly tedious, not fun like it's supposed to be. :steamfacepalm:

If you are talking about the Tdrive, like was in SG2, that's not enough.

In-sector travel should be relatively fast with sublight; right now it's slow.
Tal Maru 15 ABR 2016 a las 7:18 p. m.
No it wont be a T drive.
Kele and Tia were talking about it earlier.
From what I understand it will be faster then light but you will still be able to navigate while in it.
Artophwar 15 ABR 2016 a las 7:24 p. m.
They said that the new game engine allows for REAL-TIME warp drive. SO we should be getting faster travel sometime.

Weird, cause if it's not the tdrive styloe thing, then whats the point of sublight?

I'd say Sublight is your default travel speed, then you have combat speed under it. Warp might take something akin to - Fuel - resource to limit it somehow.. Then you have your Station transport that seem to have a radius for it's range. Tho, the warp thing is just speculation..

I find the current speed sort of similar to the older X games.. bit faster, yet not as fast as the best Time dilatation device.. or whatever it was called.

+1 to increase speed, I'm basically choosing a go to location, afk and go brew myself a cup of coffee before coming back...

SETA. Yeah, I couldn't stand slowboating.
I got the jumpdrive and used it for the rest of the game, even in my first fighter. :steamhappy:

Yup. Cept for me it's just sitting there waiting while I sip my drink.

Ok I've been thinking about this on and off for the past day or so...
What we need isn't another form of travel entirely but just stages or gears of sublight.
That saves using another key AND saves adding another seperate mechanic.

To provide an example:
Stage 1 is what we have now.
It's really only good for running away from a fight, not for travel.

After Stage 1 gets up to full speed, then go up to stage 2.
This speed should be fast enough to get the player ship across the sector in 15-30 seconds, depending on just what path you go across it

After stage 2 is up to full speed, then goto stage 3.
Stage three is fast enough to travel across the whole galaxy in a few minutes, from one side to another.

Each stage or gear could take progressively longer to build up to full speed, allowing the player more control over it.
Stage 1 takes a second or two to reach full speed, stage 2 takes 5 seconds and stage 3 takes a good 10 seconds.

Using this system the ai autopilot can also predict when to shift-down in gears/stage based on distance to target.
Example:
2k or less, goto stage 1 speed.
in sector, but still far away, go down to stage 2 speed.
Anywhere out of the sector where you plan to go takes you up to stage 3 speed.

Maybe I'm the odd one here, but I actually enjoy the slowish travel speed. Makes the game world feel sooo much bigger, which was one thing I didn't like so much about SPG2.. Everything was so quickly gotten to. Cross galaxy travel should (IMO) feel like a thing to prepare for. I do support the real time warp drive if that's really a thing, though hopefully with some kind of limiting factor, even if it's just energy usage.

BlazinPony 17 ABR 2016 a las 6:27 a. m.
I had thought maybe something like a "Micro Jump Drive" that when activated it uses all of the ships power and leaps the ship say like 10,000 km? (not sure what units of measurement are used) in the direction your traveling, but it would need the power to be at 100% so it can't just be spammed.

That was what you had in SG1, called a TDrive; in SG2 they had a Tdrive, but was consumable... which sucked.

I think the integrated speed/gears thing I suggested is the best course of action.

Just an idea I thought I'd throw out there lol.

Your idea sounds pretty good tho, it sounds similar to what they have in Eve Online...which is an awsome warp system imo.

I'm with you, so there's at least two of us oddballs. I like the slow pace of sublight travel as it makes the vast distances feel like...well...like vast distances. I can understand how it could be tedious for some though, so having faster travel options might be an idea for those who want to get around quicker - but I'd like to see things "added" and not "changed" (ie. add additional fast travel options and leave sublight speed as is).
Artophwar 17 ABR 2016 a las 5:03 p. m.
Im also one who likes to travel the "slower" way in games. Its a bit more immersive than using fast travel options. But I still like the option to fast travel.

Im pretty sure they will be keeping the current sublight, and just adding more way to travel fast, like tdrive, warp drive, and riftways.
