I see many players wondering why their space marines aren’t winning and it’s usually because they are ignoring so many negative factors thinking that they can just push through anything.
I think it’s much better to really figure out what templates would work best given your nations production capacity, research power, the terrain and/or conditions you plan on fighting in, and who you plan on fighting.
If you've got a lot of production power, then space marines can work, as long as you make sure the logistics keep up. If you don't have much production power, then basic foot infantry and line artillery can do the job. Pick your techs to support what you got.
As said, there's a lot to consider, and there really isn't a 'best', just what fits your current situation.
You can make anything work
The rest of the support Helicopter medevac, superheavy self propelled howitzer, and any other you might like.
