If I'm good at HOI4, does that mean I can be a general in real life?

No.

Being good at HOI IV isn't about commanding divisions, it is about running the economy.

Try being El Presidente.

Hoi4 does somewhat accurately depict certain things, such as Rivers being notoriously hard to cross, Air Support being everything in modern wars, and encirclements being very dangerous. However it doesn't really take into consideration Morale, Topography, the Economic effects of war, etc. It also doesn't accurately depict sieges of urban areas.

So definitely not, but at the same time you will probably know more than just a random person who thinks troops can just magically walk over large rivers like Jesus.

Sure, in Uganda or Kongo you would impress the crap out of the general staff. Until you refuse to send children into war...

I don't think HoI4 isn't great at simulating these things, but it does tie them in a little.
Morale = War support
Topography = Terrain (kinda)
War economics = attrition, strategic bombing, supply, etc

You'd be lucky to be qualified for 9-1-1 dispatch

That you ask such a question, qualifies you to enlist as a private, and stay there in all probability.
just as good as all the call of duty kids that think they can wage warfare because they didnt die that one match.
