Doing it in land that is easy to defend usually works quite well (France with the maginot line, Italy with the alps ect.)
If not, then a good way to disrupt the enemy is to do it in either:
An isolated area with resouces/factories
Or somewhere where there is likely a low amount of troops (Let's the coup go wild)
As an aside, please launch a coup in Australia, we're in the middle of a boring-ass election here.
