British and French Navy (1939 scenario)
Now i know the Royal Navy had the largest navy in the world in 1939 until about 1942 but in 1939 it had about 193 ships. Is that accurate?
Another quick question France in 1939 had 168 ships, thats what it says in game. So is that true or are french op,becuase like most of their fleet starts in north and southern franc eand north africa. Their french fleet is just massive.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Navy#Second_World_War

From the article, the French had the 4th largest navy in the world with 3 modern battleships, 5 dreadnoughts, 1 carrier, 1 seaplane carrier, 7 heavy cruisers, 11 light cruisers, 32 heavy destroyers, 38 destroyers, 80 submarines, and 65 sloops.

Even if you factor that the game doesn't count sloops, dreadnoughts, and seaplane carriers, France has 18 less destroyers, 4 less light cruisers, and 23 less subs in the game than it had in real life.

The Royal Navy was the largest in the world in 1939 with 15 battleships and battlecruisers plus 5 more in construction, 7 carriers plus 5 more in construction, 66 cruisers plus 23 more in construction, 184 destroyers with 52 under construction, 45 escort and patrol vessels plus 9 under construction and 1 on order, and 60 subs plus 9 under construction. The HoI 4 wiki doesn't list how many ships of each type the UK starts in the game and I haven't played them yet, so I can't make any direct comparisons, but it looks like the UK has fewer ships in the game than it had in real life as well.

This is most likely for balance gameplay-wise, and it may make defeating the UK as Germany simply impossible.

Historically, the fate of the (indeed massive) French fleet was a significant issue for both the UK and the Reich.

After the Fall of France, the fleet remained under Vichy Control and as such technically neutral.

Churchill didn't want to take the risk of the Nazi's seizing the French fleet, which gave the Mers El Kebir "incident" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attack_on_Mers-el-K%C3%A9bir

The nazis did indeed try to seize the remnant of the French fleet in 42 at Toulon, but the French managed to scuttle the fleet before the germans took control of the harbor (Opening fire on panzers with ship mounted cannons...).

Actually, you can just ship over there and do your thing. Naval AI is a joke. They won't stop you even if they had 10000 ships and 1 million planes.

The Royal Navy will definitely defend the Channel. If you send your air force, naval bombers, and navy into the Channel then getting across is easy enough (too easy) but sending unprotected troops across the Channel is a good way to lose them.
