London Naval Treaty bug/observations
So, in MtG as the UK, I go down the focus tree, and I rush down to the colonial development focuses, as I am trying to form the Imperial Federation ASAP. Around mid 1937, however, something interesting happens.

France and Italy (both are obviously naval treaty signatories), declare war randomly on Austrailia, and I am dragged into it as well. Logically, it must be because the Australian AI is granted the extra dockyards from my National Focus, thus causing it to break the naval treaty.

Honestly, this to me is almost a bug, although I suppose it does add some nuances to playing the UK in the early game. I am going to try leaving the treaty during the second London conference in mid-late 1936, but I am unsure if this causes my subjects to leave the treaty as well.

If this doesn't work, I am going to try to rearrange my focus order, in a giant experiment to see how early a UK player can develop his colonies without them breaking the treaty with their extra dockyards. I'll try to keep you guys posted.

As a side note, this strange interaction could potentially allow a Democratic UK player to start a war with France very, VERY early...

Doesn't it only give Civ factories to your puppets on the way to imperial? and even if they did get dockyards in australia, that isn't a violation of the naval treaty.

I build dockyards all over india and malaysia at the beginning of the game when going imperial and I've never had them get declared on.

The London naval treaty is about limiting ship sizes, not dockyard count...

you got some weird naval mod?

Some Focues esp. the Allied ones could brake out war between the Partys which makes it easyer for the Fashist to get them. :steamhappy:

Beware of that in the easyest way. Don´t go that path then the Allieds will be strong as they could against the Fashist States. :steamhappy:

No mods. And no, the focuses I am referring to do give dockyards. "Development in Austrailia," "Development in New Zealand," "Development in Canada," and "Development in South Africa" all grant at least 1 dockyard.

And what I am getting at, isn't the dockyards themselves; I am just thinking that somehow the AI is building larger/more ships as a RESULT of more dockyards.

This happened to me playing as Japan. Did Australia build a bunch of capital ships? It seems there is a limit to the number of capital ships you can build before the AI declares war, even if you withdraw from the treaty, and you can exploit this decision by deleting some of your capital ships and declaring war on a country through warning them, thus dragging all of the signatories of the treaty to war on your side.

Here's an update. So it's now Sep 1 1940, and in this playthrough I did everything exactly the same as before (Historical AI focus, beeline to colonial development focuses, etc.) but the difference this time, is that I chose to leave the naval treaties during the second London conference.

No DoW on Austrailia at this point. So it seems as though my suspicions were correct, and it is somehow tied to the London Naval Treaty. Now I am going to try to duplicate the "bug" once again, to see if it can be done consistently, or I had just some freak (bad) luck the first time.

Honestly, this is probably what is happening! Thank you for sharing your experience. I think they should utilize the new "advanced game options" by adding "disable London Naval Treaty" as a game option.

I know some general overlook/bug where some countries begin game with production of ship that is otherwise not allowed due treaty.

It may be related too.

Yea, this 'feature' is breaking all my games by dragging the great powers to war early, you can avoid being warned yourself through being at war(with a major or china, I think) or not building too many capital ships early/ deleting obsolete CA.
