Yeah, I definitely will be adding a controller screen with what the buttons are in a an update soon.
However, I'd like to know what controller you're using? I've been testing this out with Xbox gamepads wired and wireless on both Windows and Mac without issue ... the inventory button is on the "Start" button which is a button with three horizontal lines on it.
I am wondering though that if the start button isn't working, that maybe you have a controller that doesn't have shoulder buttons like the console style gamepads do. The shoulder buttons will cycle the tabs in the inventory screen ... so you might just get stuck there with partial inventory functionality if your device lacks them too.
I'll make another update shortly that will allow for navigation of the tabs without shoulder buttons just incase people have that setup as well as add some icons on those tabs that indicate the shoulder buttons can be used and see if I can find more buttons to cover the cases where some buttons might not be working on some devices.
Let me know what controller you have where "Start" isn't working as expected. Cheers!
If I push up, he moves up-left, stuff like that. It just feels very finicky, like he's not moving where I want. Considering it's turn based, just a simple thing like wanting to go up, but instead moving up-left, can cost you your life. So far it's kind of ruining it for me how touchy the movement is.
So based on your feedback I have found a way to change the movement so that you need to press much further to the edge of the gamepad left stick circle so it's now a lot easier to pick a direction to move.
At the same time I have now added visual feedback of which floor tile you will move to as you begin to press the stick (similar to the right stick manual targeting) which clears when you do the move or can actually be used to target the immediate enemies around you.
I have a couple more bugs to iron out in other systems, but I'm aiming to release these movement changes along with a host of other magic system changes in the next week or so.
Thanks much for the feedback, I'll post here again when the new version is actually out with these changes.
mqpiffle ... soon I'll be adding a controls menu for the gamepad that shows a picture of the gamepad with all the buttons labeled so you know what does what as well as being able to select which graphical set of buttons to use (Xbox/PS4 buttons) ... given that the Steam controller is discontinued though and not supported by Unity I'm not sure I'll be able to add support for that one specifically.
At the same time perhaps it would still be useful to make a slider for the "gamepad stick" sensitivity? At this point it would only increase the sensitivity from where the game is now at automatically ... but still maybe it would be helpful for some non-standard gamepad devices.
Thanks for your feedback ... the full update details can be found here:
