Crash and BSOD - (Solved)
I got X4 back in 2018.. was playing 1.3 at the time. back then my PC was just over the minimum specs. after a few hours and building up of lag, crashes and game freeze, I shelved it.

Fast foreword to 2021. Got a new PC.

i9 - 11900K @ 5.3 ghz
64 gig of ram
RTX 2070
Win 10

Started a new game 4.1.. manage to play for 46 hours. then it happened.. my first game lock up.. total freeze.. required task shut down...

Ok.. possible fluke.. So I restarted.. 6 more hours.. BSOD..

Really?

Ok.. it crashed on the old system.. It crashed on the new system that far exceed the specs with current drivers...

Well thats it.. after 177 hours, over 3 years, on 2 separate PC's, I can conclude that the game is unreliable.

Time to finally make my review.. and uninstall permanently.

No, I will not upload any logs, No I will not upload my save game.. I am not a beta tester. I got X4 to play it.. not to tinker with flawed code...

I played every single X game since BTF.. and this is the last. I am done wasting my money on something I cannot enjoy..

Time for something better...

Is there a reason to be so unpolite?

@OP

You said you had a BSOD, that indicates a Problem with your Hardware... despite your unwillingness to share any Logs that could not only help you but also others that may use a similar Setup, you should have a closer look at all and every components you have installed in your System.

Not only your CPU, GPU and Ram but also your PSU and your Input Devices... your Bluescreen should have given you all the Informations you need to find out what has caused it.

Anyway, sad to see you departing.

I wish you good times in what ever Games you might play in the Future.

Have you overclocked your CPU or GPU? A BSOD is not a game's fault.

Heat or an insufficient Power Supply can also cause it... just saying.

Heat is not an issue. CPU is liquid cooled, not overclocked since it has ample processing power on its own. The required Power supply for my setup is 800W, However I have a 1200W PS to handle future GPU upgrades.. And I have an external fan blowing into the box, in an air conditioned room set to 69 F. GPU temp at the moment of crash was 48C.

Also, I have a considerable library. The only other game that has done a BSOD was Endless space 2 which is a known issue long term as the save game gets corrupted. Which I believe is what is happening in X4.

As stated, I have 177 hours into it.. and once I start making progress with ships, the PHQ expansion. and combat. the game freezes up at random. I could be motionless on a station going through the menus, or in space and hit Shift 1 to run away from approaching Zenon forces.. instant freeze.

And of course the last autosave was an hour ago.. so all that transpired... didn't... this is the frustration that I cant get past. one cannot expect to brush off the last hour of gaming over and over again.

I realize the common thought is to point to my system. there must be something wrong with it. Yet this only happens with 2 games so far. ES2 and X4.

So when you have over 500 games and only 2 drop out.. its hard for me to accept that the problem rests with my system.

Just because the BSOD happens with x4 or es2 doesnt mean the problem lies with them. I have over 1000 hours with this game, and I constantly mod it and mess with it for doing things like taking screenshots and videosetc, and it just doesnt crash. Then again in many years with this system I have never had a bsod... and I have a lot of games too. Im sorry but BSOD's are a sign of a problematic system. Or hey maybe you are really unlucky and got a couple of omg particles hitting your hard drive or something.
You also didnt mention whether you mod or not, which could absolutely cause crashes. But bsods? Doubt.

You're right, I shouldn't have been so impolite.

@OP
You just were very vague with your post and it just seem like a post to vent your anger. While I do very much enjoy the X games and X4 a lot, I know they have their issues. I however never had a BOSD with X4. I have crashed a few times before (due to my laptop heating issue. Very old and needs a repast). I haven't had to much issues with X4, but as suggested posting logs do help. You aren't a tester, but like any support request, someone needs to start somewhere.

I have played X4 for almost 700hours and it has crashed only once on that whole time.
Bsod is always related to hardware or driver problem. ( even corrupted OS files )
Also Bsod should create a minidump and you can find the source of the problem there. Microsoft has a windows debug tool for that.
Older windows versions were better on bsod because the bsod screen told your what happend.

I played x4 on 3 different computers for over 1500 hours and my GF also played the game on her computer for around 200 hours, we had maybe 5 crashes and they were because I modded the game heavily... Just saying.
I hope you get it fixed, sometimes a fresh reinstall of windows and everything is a good idea... pc gaming is great when you have no issues with your hardware but it can be a pain when you start having problemes ! hope you fix it.

Sometimes XMP profiles, or so I've heard, can be unstable. 64 GBs is a lot of RAM, and if I had to guess it's probably quad ranked (2 dual ranked sticks per channel) which does tax the memory controller quite a lot. My old i7-2600k system was similar but with 16GB of RAM. It was mostly stable to game, but it definitely was not 100% stable now that I've used my new one for a few years to compare.

As others have said, drivers could be the issue also. It's really hard to nail down exactly why a BSOD happened, and would mostly be about trial and error.

By themselves, the freezes could be an X4 problem, I've had a save game start freezing randomly minutes after loading it (the background music would keep playing while X4 was locked up). For whatever reason the freezes don't happen anymore. But I've never had X4 cause a BSOD.

Ok.. if someone knows how to determine what the BSOD files say caused it.. im all ears..
I am not savy enough to know what the dump file is pointing to as the problem..

I will attempt to resolve this and try again. Only because I do enjoy the series. and this latest event left a sour taste..

The above was highlighted in red on BlueScreenView.

If needed I can post the rest.

Same here. I played X games long time and was hyped after X4 release but i concluded too: its not more than a foundation. its even after 3 years not polished not enjoyable.
And its SO EXTREMELY SAD tbecause the better ideas and the better "how to do it better" should be known to egosoft but they effecticely ignore it.

This is (almost) how a 60€ game should look and/or be after 3 years:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1621209311

They just do useless wasted stuff like "terraforming" - well, than "play-develop" your game further, it doesnt get better this way.

Egosoft has to do some real revolution to get better. the potential is there!

The game is terribly unstable. Every playthrough i had very early a very game breaking bug/crash/problem. For example one time i suddenyl started spinning very fast, was "su ck ed" into a station/space object and couldnt escape and so on.
AI is still broken despite egosoft promised improvements on release day.

The game is and feels simply broken. Egosoft has to do some real refactoring to the game, not just some cosmetic "play-developing".

And your game versioning and long changelogs say nothing good about your game project management. Every company comes to a point where they have to find a new way/improve things.

Save bloat. Seems to be a common problem with this game. The longer a game is running, the more stuff is being built, and the more stuff goes into the save.

Wouldn't matter in any other game, but go ahead and check out how large the save files are on your own computer. Seriously, go look.

You sure you're looking in the right game folder? Because its 5gb on my end. For an early game save. Much later in the game is around 10gb.
