I love the new flight model!
Egosoft, I adore the updated flight model in v7.50! With the old model, most ships handled like cars and trucks on level, dry pavement. They felt hefty, with low power-to-weight ratios, but also very inclined to go exactly where they were pointed. Bigger ships simply felt like bigger trucks.

Under the new flight model, spaceships feel like spaceships. Fighters especially feel like chairs strapped to rocket engines — which is pretty much what they are. I'm re-learning fighter combat; I need to worry about momentum and oversteer much more than I ever did before. Even big ships feel like massive machines hurled through space by their equally-massive engines — which is, again, exactly what they are.

This is all as it should be, and I love it to bits. Thank you very much, and thanks to John Pritchett especially for his excellent work on this.

You do realise the flight model update is not part of the DLC right?

Regarding the flight model, it sure is fun power-sliding your way halfway across the sector because you popped out of a jumpgate going 15km/s :D

I consider that a feature. Velocity management matters much more than it did before.

Now if I could just break the habit of approaching stations at a substantial fraction of c and thinking I can brake to a halt in the last hundred meters...

I swear the dart races in Timelines are much easier now with the updated flight model. I got 9th place on the leader boards on Graph 3 races after forgetting how to play the game. Granted I have a lot of hours in Elite's dog fights in and out of flight assist, but my two other races I did last year I did horribly.

I'm not sure what to think about it right now, I like how fighters handle specially with the better engines but the Hyperion is horrible to fly, I've not tested other Destroyers but I doubt they will fly better.
Some things are better like turning but then they behave like they are on ice and using Flight assist off works way less good than before, now I actually have to stop in order to make bigger turns... Maybe I just need to get used to it I'm not sure but I definitely am not enjoying it right now, will see with time.

Also the transporters are still as horrible to fly as they were, I would have liked somthing more like Elite dangerous, I feel like ED has the best flight model i've ever experianced, but that has to be personnal taste.

I just did a Timelines race this morning, and found it a lot easier than before. The new velocity vector display really helps knowing where my ship is drifting when approaching the checkpoints too.
Imo it's ♥♥♥♥ for dogfights.. the AI simply can't handle the flight model and jousting just becomes tedious and boring.
Turned on Auto pilot on my yasur... crashed straight into an asteroid at full speed. Spent 20 seconds watching the AI try to get unstuck, magically teleported out of asteroid and continued flight. I do like the new boost bar though.

To be fair, didn't that happen before too?

Dog-fighting with xenon is a PITA now, or any faction really. I had quite the time learning when and how to zip around avoiding fire to save shields for boosting.

but now enemy fighters just boost in unpredictable times. It was easy to solo a squad of 10 small fighters cause once their shield was gone and having nothing to boost with was their death. Now it is a lengthy process of fighting them and is quite mind numbing doing this jousting garbage.

I wish they would fix AI. That's the main thing holding me back from buying it. And performance worries on my old PC.

So far i ABSOLUTELY HATE the new flight model. Non stop gliding around like a piece of butter in a hot pan is super annoying for me.
Loved dog fighting with M ships but with the new weight they turn and boost so slow its painful.
I try for a bit longer and hope they continue to work on it (or make it optional to see how many people are using wich model) but im really close to deinstall and forget this game after 1.2k hours.

I'm getting to the same point.. I just recently bought the game but honestly this new flight model is so incredibly boring that I'm not sure I'll keep bothering with it..

Sounds like they need a newtonian physics toggle.

Or different ships that handle different ways.

The problem is that it's not truly Newtonian; it's a mix of Newtonian mechanics with an odd thrust curve and friction curve.
