IE: You just sent a ship on a Venture to another universe where it would fly around and be an interesting addition to someone else's playthrough for a while, and then it'd pop back with the spoils of exploration.
The receiving end would be flying around doing their own thing and suddenly go "Wait, why's that ship named something obviously not AI generated?" and it'd be neat and that'd be about it.
The result is that with enough people using ventures, everyone's universe would have a random scattering of 'real player' ships flying around which just made it all a bit more interesting and connected.
So no, they weren't a way for people to play together as in both directly influencing the same universe.
all the info we have on the venture and what they trying to make right now is(from what I know):
-adding a multiverse that will simulate an active universe which will be influenced by player actions.
(that doesn't mean direct multiplayer, this is off the plans. but it will give a feeling of achievement for players, with the objective to control the multiverse for your faction you or your guild chose)
-adding guild system, not sure if we'll be able to make mission "together" figuratively (again no direct multiplayer) but like send ship together on a mission in the multiverse.
what is sure is that your guild get point and influence with its member progress helping the multiverse faction you took side with. and those its help secure a good place in the ranking and secure a better reward at the end of the season.
-season system where you need to capture as much as possible territory in multiverse, in which the players who participated the most get better reward (even on loosing side)
-hybrid mission, mission linked to multiverse that you can do directly in your game, thus why the need to convert your save to a venture save. (the opposite can't be done).
-ability to send fleet of ships to attack a player universe and send them to do mission if the end player allowed this kind of mission that will be optional, that to prevent grief.
-new ships made especially for venture mission, in live universe those are not very strong, but sent in venture mission those are way stronger than regular ships of their class.
-maybe a chat system, where player will be able to communicate in game, discuss and have fun.
that pretty much all I know till now personally from all the info they gave.
not sure they will achieve all this, and the lack of information might hint to changes and maybe some feature removal. (but that just speculation)
last time I asked, the answer was that venture is TBA and will release after tides of avarice (even tho it was planned to release last year originally)
I wonder what they will end up doing with those idea, it sounded like huge work to be done so I was surprised they would release it fast.(which they didn't, and that good I better wait and see something up to the expectation they made)
hopefully will get some more info/hint about the progress/planned features and any change.
I am personally ready to wait the time it take. I like the idea, and will probably play it a lot even if its not direct multiplayer if it release with season and progress and prize to earn.
especially with the hybrid mission which sound to me awesome. (I would like to fight player fleet sent to me and sent fleet to player for them to destroy and loot. have a lot spare anyway, and we will probably be limited in that anyway)
Still, this is a move in right direction, features like these are easy to implement while still giving some multiplayer feel. Imagine if ships and their equipment would be much more diverse and varied and you could sell your ship as a merc to another player and the players could provide feedback and rank on how well it performed, allowing it be more visible to other buyers (just like DD pawn system).
the basic connectivity should be restored as well... so, anyone who was venturing before the feature went dark should have access to their venture inventory again.
whats coming in the future?
i don't know... i am as eager to know what the higher ups come up with as you are.
