Travel speed

I saw here, once, a player succeeded to join dark sun star. It tooks a while. He used a pegasus. However an other ship have a faster travel speed than the pegasus.

Other ships have faster travel speed but a pegasus have better acceleration and is a small ship so it doesn't require a windup time to activate travel mode.

Right, but for the present example, acceleration is not a great help.

The courier miner is faster than the pegasus I think.

Courier is 3714 while a pegasus is 4888
Pegasus is the fastest flyable small/medium ship in travel speed.

Large and XL ships however beat it.
Chthonios for example is 7537

I say the reason people choose to fly the pegasus because it just feels better than trying to fly those big ships even if they do have a faster travel drive.

Courier Miner, not the cargo one. 6000 something with travel drives.

You are probably the only to use mk1 engine on pegasus. Mine travel at 8876 without upgrade.

And yes I use mostly use pegasus to explore, and as personal taxi too. In first game I used more often gargon as taxi for security reasons

An heavy split miner can reach around 9700 with argon engine.
However the real reason of the post is I think there is sometime strange thing with splits stuff. When I look on comparable ships with the same engine I m sometime doubtful.

Probably at vanilla many people used paranid combat engine for S and M fighting ship. You took now the same ship and just with split cruise engine you outperfome in any stat except turbo. It lets my a bit perplex.

I'd put the fastest Travel engine [Arg Mk3] and add a suitable mod to it. in an Alligator Gas miner. The base speed in Travel mode is 8033 m/s.

in my mind the slpit have the fastest engines MK4 but you need a reputation of+20 for buying it

they have the fastest normal speed, they have terrible travel speed

I still have Mk4's on my Pegasus, the travel speeds not that bad and they spend a lot of time out of travel drive. It would be an interesting test to time which were better to get from one side of the galaxy to the other... Mk3 PAR vs Mk4 Split.

I m not too familiar with splits. I believed Mk4 were only combat engine. A cruise version exist ?

Only ZYA/RHA has the MK4 Combat engine... and the Travel Speed of this one is... slower than a snail.
