Welcome to X4, and I hope you have fun!
Other than that, choose wathever you fancy more aesthetically, Terran, boron and split aesthetics are awesome in my opinion.
Anyway, I made a guide with this kind of topic in mind so I could answer quickly.

Terrans have the meanest XL ship that can one shot almost anything.
Getting Rep with the factions that dislike you is incredibly easy don't let that disuade you.
Plus, Terran is the best. Purge the alien scum Littering *our* universe.
Other than some very rudimentary start-specific introduction stuff, all starts have access to all content. You don't need to "finish" one DLC before starting another; in fact, you probably won't want to, since storyline missions often have big difficulty jumps. If a storyline is suddenly too hard, do something else for a while.
X4 is very sandboxy; go where you want, do what you want. You'll probably reach a point where just about nothing in the universe is a credible threat any more: You've wiped out the Xenon, the Teladi are in awe of your ssuperb profitss sskillss, the Terrans are asking for you to please maybe consider giving Earth back because they were still using it, et cetera... but that's probably hundreds of hours, at least, into a playthrough.
