I consider them a waste unless you are mining in a L ship with several turrets.
The only thing i have found that increases mining speed is if you are out of the sector, they seem to magically do better. Maybe lack of stress of the boss watching over their shoulder?
One thought there: I have found that sector with no probes indicates less amount of overall resource then a sector with the probes deployed - difference about + 15-20 percent with the probes. I think it can be usefull when mining nividium only. or - if You are really limited to mine in a sector with little volume of resources.
Another question: are the crew's skills improve mining speed at any level? And if they are, which of them exactly?
IS mining and OOS mining are different
IS is more about looks
OOS is about efficiency
Probe show the good yield locations to the miners Which help with mining speed but the major thing that speed up mining is the level of piloting skill for the captain and how good his crew is
You can also add in mining modifications for the mining weapon to make it more effective
A 5 star can mine in like 2 minutes up to 5 while a low level pilot can take like 30min
The mining speed of the Miner is much more determined by:
1. Piloting skill of the Captain,
2. Experience of the service crew,
3. Better mining drills and turrets,
4. Distance between station and mining spot (obviously, but can be an obstalce if the two are in separate sectors),
and less more by:
5. Deployed resource probes.
If someone has another ideas, please write them down.
