To allow Large Ships to Dock at your Stations, regardless if it is your HQ or just a SPP, you have to add at last a 1-Dock Pier.
Additionally you may want to add some Cargo Drones to your Station as they are responsible for Cargo Exchange between Large Ships and Stations.
Thanks. I got 15 cargo drones already. Guess i'll just add more medium traders to the station to hurry up wares needed for research.
A 1M6S docking bay means 1 Medium and 6 Small... therefore it cannot accommodate an L, which requires a pier.
You might be better off using a 3 Dock Pier, either the cross shaped or the E shaped version, since your PHQ may require greater docking capacity for L class vessels than a regular station which would usually only need a 1 dock pier as suggested above.

In that case, consider adding more M docks too as a 1M6S will only accommodate a single M class at a time.
I'm trying not to put to much money into the station. Just enough to get research done.
Sooner or later you will invest way more than you like into that specific... and any other Station.
The Game already got you... ;)
L Class Docking so no L traders are ever waiting for a parking spot.
