Best turrets for your ship?
I know, I know, turrets suck in this game. But out of the sucky turrets, which ones suck the least? Flak? Mini-gun? Laser beam?

Personally love argon bolt turrets.
If you purple modify it as well it become really good.

Bolt turrets are better than Flak overall?

I never saw the appeal of flak really.

A combo of plasma, bolt, and even pulse for me had better results.

against light fighter i often use pulse turrets
best range after missles and really fast tracking and the projectiles are really fast too
but the bolt turrets look cooler 😉

never used flak.. range is horrible
in older x games flak was a really nice fighter defense.

Surprised of all the negative flak comments. I use them almost exclusively on DP and fighters can't even fly past it to the gate. A few M turrets are laser just to stop those trying to travel drive past it. They also do a good job taking out turrets when up close and have moved to split over argon for it's higher damage.

Flaks are good to have, they at least cause damage when you miss with a BEAM.

Hmm, so mixed results. I started with flak but was thinking about bolt turrets.

It depends on the ship and how many credits you want to put into it, and how much reputation you have at that given moment. Keep in mind that other races offer different specs on weapons shields engines, the best ship in the game might be a Mixture of several factions best stuff. And some Factions of the same race may offer different versions or other ships or weapons as well.
What i mean by other races offer different versions of for instance in shields alone one faction may offer a shield with high capacity and low recharge rates, and another low capacity and high recharge rates and you might find some in the middle kinda all around. Its a choice what is best for you and may also depend if the ship is going to be a trader or your fully decked out Main Capital Fleet.

Yeh, bolts or pulses. Bolts have "some" advantage that they spray and pray in a narrow cone over distance, but pulses are better if targeted ships have little to no transversal, which is very circumstantial, or for larger, less mobile targets. Just try both, and stick to the one you like the sound of. Some are bad, some are ok, there's no absolute "best" turret. Unless you want to fit specifically for hunting K's, I's, stations or whatever, then if you don't have plasma turrets you're doing it wrong. A bit. because they will still need anti-fighter cover. In system.

Heck, i fit a Raptor full Disco for giggles, all lasers with blue or better mods. As effective as it seems to be against hordes of small ships (because it has an obscene amount of turrets, heh) it's useless against everything else that can shoot back with relatively big guns.

For Raptors, M turrets can go with Flaks. They really do hella work against fighters just because the number of, and they seem to have less falloff damage vs max range.

Nobodies mention tracking turrets, there are some ships that really lean towards them like a Gorgon for example can carry 100 missiles and just a few tracking turrets on a destroyer can get you to 200. The fire rate is a bit to aggressive IMHO, I'd love to be able to set a fire order only at <60% hull as finishing shots to really make these hunter/killers must haves.

If you're trying to attack S or M ships, pulse and bolt are good choices (beam does too little damage, and range is ♥♥♥♥).

If you're trying to attack L or XL ships, plasma or dumbfire missiles (though you have to supply the ordinance for those).

As large turret I use plasma on destroyers and set it to open fire only on capital ship (it seems it target also station like that). For medium turrets I dont care. I battle only with destroyers, so encounter vs medium or small AI ships are no match. Medium have little importance here, I just avoid missile turret to avoid ammo reload task.

I'm currently flying a cerberus. I just equipped it with bolt turrets after I had flak turrets on it. I guess I'll find out later tonight if they are an improvement or not.

I use whatever has the fastest tracking. Turret wont do you any good if it's facing the wrong direction.

In that respect i think some PAR turrets have twice the turn rate of other races for some reason. Not sure if that's a typo, or they actually do spin that fast.
Wraith Jul 2, 2020 @ 9:42am
That Argon actually not paranid.
Argon has the best turn rates.
