Likewise a Teladi one will need sunrise flowers (or nostrop?) and a Paranid one will need soja beans.
I wouldn't say it doesn't matter. XD I mean, you'll have to make an extra module to supply the ingredients since you can't just use the same stuff as your food rations.
On the other hand, that might help; if you get the balance wrong and your food ration production is using up all your wheat but your medical supplies are coming from scruffins, your medical production won't crap out.
Apparently the physiology of species that bear no common ancestry whatsoever is compatible enough that medicine for one species is medicine for all.
That, or the common "medical supplies" package contains chemicals for all known biological species, which can be synthesized from a variety of bulk/specialty organics; all the races use the same spices so the specialty organics are all there, and any set of bulk organics can be used. Or maybe it actually contains a portable field-synthesis package to create the needed chemicals on-site rather than just prefabricated drugs.
If their coding was more versatile, they'd probably have made just one module that would use any food resource available instead of using a different (but outwardly identical) module for a given bulk food resource.
I find it more interesting that all the races can use the same spices in their food without being poisoned. I wonder if any of them use dextro amino acids, like Turians and Quarians?
Only one that are from a different gate system is the Khaak because of their jump drives.
That's not what I read. The gate makers uploaded themselves into virtual reality billions of years ago and were oblivious to the real universe until they got pinged when the Earth gate was blown up, so they didn't really have anything to do with 'making' any species; now that they know about us, they're just rearranging the gate network to try to keep us all from slaughtering each other. Since, you know, as virtual entities with no physical bodies, that's about all they can do.
They were surprised when the terran made their own gates yes but in the end the network as we know it is filled with species that have some sort of understanding with each other that they purposefully connected to each other.
Unlike the khaak which fly around in pretty much foreign ways compare to every other species of this network
