Methane Resource Help?

Hi,

Ive been puitting down resource probes in a lot of purple and blue areas but havent found any of this gas. Are they any good known deposits of methane in a specific sector?

Pretty sure the spots are static, only methane I recall on top of my head is in Paranid territory, amongst their civil war border.

If you don't mind spending a bit of time, just drop a gas miner in a sector with some blue, tell him to automine methane, and see if he goes anywhere. If he doesn't, then there ain't no methane in the sector.

NPC miners have magical ability to always find the ore/gas in a sector regardless of resource probes.

Yeah so far when ive done that they havent moved so ive been searching everywhere!

There is an easier way then the automine behavior, if you've scouted the sector but don't have resource probes down. Select the miner and right click the purple or blue region. The mine command will only have the resources at that location.

If you have a station that needs methane and provide it with a gas miner, as long as the manager has enough skill, it will automatically track down methane within several jumps as well.

If you do not want to spend time looking, I'm fairly sure you can google an X4 resource map or some such.

I second the right clicking.. I recent found if you select the gas ship, right click and go to the Mine tab, nothing comes up is the area you selected has no gas.. but if you select the blue or purple spots and their is gas, it tells you what it can mine.. Its not super reliable since it only tells you at the spot you click, but it can give you an idea what you can find in the area. So if it comes up in the mine tab methane, you know at least there is some in the sector. As for how much, well there is probably better ways, but I myself am still kinda new to the game.

I can highly recommend Matrix 9 for Methane...lol. Hydrogen is right next door in Matrix 451. There's just a little infestation you'll need to clear first.

Try this out. Click on a gas miner so he is highlighted, then right click a sector you have explored, look for the mining option. if there are any resources it will show up there, no probes needed. Works the same with mineral miners.

Found a couple of spots for methane.
- Black Hole sun, the second zone, south of the jumpgates. Most of the cloud is helium, but there is definitely methane in there.
- Grand Exchange, one of the three zones. The lower left one I think, near the jumpgate leading to Black Hole Sun.
- Family Zhin, everywhere.
- Family Nhuut - Solid/gaseous cloud northeast of the jumpgate triangle.
- Trinity Sanctum VII - Far in the northwest corner, near the ALI wharf. Also another one in the far southwest cornet from the jumpgate.
- Might also be one in pontifexs claim. Not sure, since I can never get a clear reading from the resource cloud there.

If you have a 5 Star manager it really helps to be able to go 5 sectors in range of station. You won't have to worry about much except assigning enough miners, and DOCKING to support your station. I found the fastest way to level a manager is to put a 2 star pilot on a S trader and let him go. He will be a 3 star manager in time. Then transfer him to a Manager of a station that has a decent amount of traders / miners and FUNDS to carry out his work. He will be a 5 star in no time without the need of extra missions. I did this with my Mega self supporting PHQ Shipyard. And noticed that the 3 star level to 5 on his own. Were talking 115 production and 20 L miners, And 3 L traders with escort.
