You weren't if you had an invulnerability power-up, rocket boost/jumping is used in speedruns
As early as Doom 1, there's a secret that you can access through a rocket jump, in the vanilla game, without engine mods and source ports.

This is probably what 1% of the gaming populace thinks when you say "rocket jump" considering it was a useless tactic in 99% of DOOM, that is, unless you were trying to get under a gate to speedrun a level.
something not being widely used doesn't mean it didn't exist, it's like saying DiseaseX never existed because it only killed 1% of the population
Not being a feature doesn't mean it's not there which was what people were saying
But it wasn't really intended to be used as means of travel as it is in Quake. What "speedrunners" doesn't really mean anything, you mean using glitches in games is the "normal" way people play games?
Yes. Please use the term "Explosively propelled retrograde motion"
Whether OP is just whining for ♥♥♥♥ and giggles, I don't know.
I was just pointing out there's rocket jumping in Doom 1.
Rocket jump is a trick of Quake III Arena.
DooM is a single player game ... Kill the Demon - Find the exit
Reset ...
Try again ...
I'm not saying it's the normal way or intended way, but saying it wasn't there is also not true.
There was a time in games where you didn't look up and down and you didn't jump and that constituted a rocket jump at the time, just because it is not the same way in games that came after doesn't mean it's not a rocket jump. You can reach the secret by strafe running, but it is incredibly hard and precise to pull off, where the rocket jump was the intended way to reach the secret.
I'd prefer quake 5 tbh.
