Fallout 4
Should we cancel our Pip-Boy Edition Pre-Orders?
I've realized that this "Limited Edition" Pip-Boy Edition of Fallout 4 is not very limited at all. It's only been like, what a week or two since the reveal of Fallout 4, and they have already distributed several hundred thousand of these editions to retailers. And it's still only June. We still have 4 months to go until the game actually comes out.

At this rate, the Pip-Boy Edition isn't going to be very limited at all, as everyone and their grandma will have one.

I'm thinking the Pips will be on Ebay for like $30 or so after they come out, as people will clammer to sell theirs after realizing it's not all that cool, and try to get some money back.

That being said, I think it's best if we all cancelled out pre-orders and just buy one cheap off Ebay or something when it comes out. With how many units they're making of this Pip-Boy Edition, it's not going to be worth a whole lot because everyone will have one.

The more you make of something, the less it will be worth.

The game is coming out in November. It's currently almost July. Six months is hardly "a very long time".
6 months? Damn bro, u suck at counting..
No, I was including the oft-repeated suggestion among anti-pre-order folks to "wait 30-40 days". :)
They haven't said its a limited edition, they have said they are producing them in limited quantities (play on words) not a limited quantity. Each time they make a bunch they are pre-selling them, The play on words is to get people panic buying them which seems to be working. No doubt they will still be producing them even after the game is released like Fallout 3 Collectors edition.

Update 6/24: North American quantities are nearly sold out. As quantities become available, look for updates from our official Bethesda Twitter account, @bethblogs.

Does that sound to you like they have stopped producing them?

OMG I finaly found whos the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ moron who keeps telling nintendo just to do minimal amounts of Amibos so people go crazy enough to STEAL TRUCKS TO GET AMIBOS!

Your the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ at fault...Your a piece of ♥♥♥♥. People want it....so much they are willing to pay for it...but your that ♥♥♥♥ whos like "nope lets make 10 when 100 wants it" lets make less money so 9 of those 10 can be even bigger scumbags and sell it 10 times higher than the makers asked for.

Good grief, people. If they don't pre-announce how many there will be ... if they're not NUMBERED right on the object (e.g. "#3,234 of 5,000") ... then it's not something you buy FOR THE EVENTUAL VALUE.

This used to be common sense.
Just got mine ordered off Bethesda's store tonight, and now they show it out of stock, again. Just glad I got my cheap plastic overpriced gadget to go right next to my FO3 Lunchbox and FONV Box. The geek in me is happy!

For the morons who bought them not for the love of the game itself, but a chance to make cash, I hope your wallet remains a little lighter. Stuff like this is for the true fans, not a retirement plan.

And, I don't care if everyone on the planet gets one. I just know I wanted one.

It will most likely end up as a decoration in my house. And I am perfectly happy about that.

♥♥♥♥ like this isn't even where the money ever winds up. When it comes to games, you know where the money is? Semi-obscure JRPGs. The collector's editions for them tend to be huge because they target niche audiences and only produce as many as they get orders for. So in a year or so they tend to jump up in price by a lot. I've seen people looking for the collectors editions of PS3 JRPG and JStrategy games that were upwards of a hundred to two hundred dollars, and that was before the PS4 had released. Mainstream games always produce too many numbers for anything to apreciate in value to any profitable degree.

Limited Editions normally aren't. You aren't supposed to buy them to make money on, you're supposed to buy them because you want them.
Why is it called Limited Edition though, when you distribute several hundred thousand to retailers? If I am going to spend $70 on a cheap piece of plastic, I would like to be comforted by the fact that the reason I paid so much is because there are not a lot out there. Not "I paid $70 for a plastic toy with lights on it, and this is one out of 1.5 million..."

It's limited edition by definition. Even if they make 1,000,000 Pipboy editions available, and 1,000,001 people want one, then someone doesn't get one, the supply is limited compared to the demand. "Limited edition" doesn't mean only a very small number were manufactured. It means that not everyone can have one.

One again. "Limited Edition" does not equal "rare" or "unique". Not all Fallout 4 games produced will come with the Pipboy so this, in itself, makes it "limited".

Buy the Collector's Edition if you want the item. It's not an investment.
While they are making money they will continue producing them because, lets face it the markup on this phone case is high currently, gotta be at least at worst 50% profit and that's being generous.
You should cancel it because colletor's editions are silly.

I sure hope you're right. I hope this is one of those times Bethesda is blatantly lying to mess with people and create buzz.

Because everything Pete Hines has said on twitter was that this was the one and only time they're making more. After this, it's done. No more will be available. Go to ebay.

I know, it's dumb business. They should be interested in selling as many copies of the $120 version as they can, not selling a small number so that scalpers can make a profit on ebay later. It's just ridiculous.

They even say things like "we're trying to combat the people who buy multiple copies", and they do to an extent... because all of the retailers that got them again didn't let you buy more than one.

I had a golden opportunity to pre-order a pipboy edition on amazon when they first came out. And I missed it because, like you, I figured "meh, it's just a dumb collector's edition... they'll have them for months". A couple days later, I'm seeing reports that they're all gone. Then they say they're pushing out more to retailers and I was like "hooray! I'll order it this time!" so I literally stayed up all night last night waiting for Amazon to restock. Kept reading tweets about how they were going to "soon"... finally couldn't stay awake any longer and went to bed for a few hours, only to wake up and find that they not only restocked an hour after I went to sleep, but they were sold out again 15 minutes before I woke up.

It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

So yeah... I hope you're right.

Yo I have a few extras if you wanna buy. low price of $450.00
Wtf are you guys going to even do with this thing? Wear it out in public and look like a cringy loser? Literally has zero use unless you do a cosplay or something. Even then you could probably make one thats better that does not look like a cheap piece of plastic which is what it is.
