Physical copy = no mods?
I was wondering if I buy this game as a physical pc copy, will i no longer be able to mod it?
by this i mean that will the game be installed externally? and i will no longer have the traditional file path of steamapps>common etc.

also does this mean everytime i play i have to have the disc in my cd drive?

You would yes. Ill explain more in minute.
You takin notes Jul 12, 2015 @ 6:35pm
you can mod physical copies, the install path of the mods are just different.

Ok so for starters, although they could just up and change there minds with F4, Bethesda games are DRM locked to steam.
That means you need to register it with steam to run your PC copy. I did this with DyingLIght back in april and it allows install from disk but the install path and everything are steam standard.

So Steam side modding will work normally and, idk how 'you' mod otherwise, but Nexus launcher uses the path you give it. Not to mention it is possible to manuelly install mods(THOUGH HIGHLY RECCOMENDED TO NOT DO THAT).

As for putting disk in, no. Just make sure you do use the steam side intall. Unless there changing there DRM rules this time it should require that.
Although you can get around it thats not something you accidentally do.

ah, i understand, thank you very much for clearing that up, if worst comes to absolute worst ill probably end up having to buy it digitial, but i imagine it will probably come with a cd key that redeems a steam copy and the disk contains the data, kind of like gta v (8 disks omg)

anyways thanks, and dont worry i know how to mod and its very likley i proabably wont use the steam workshop

Man its been so long since a game that had a disc.... 8 discs wow. I'd imagine there will be steam activation.
Tahl Jul 12, 2015 @ 6:45pm
Yeah np. Glad to help.

Thumb note:
I dont think worst to worst could include this not having steam compatibility. If it doesnt require steam, they would deff allow the key to be linked.
But yeah, worst to worst, you can jsut use the Nexus launcher instead. Unless you get into some really heavy modding Nexus is more than enough and totally free so...

If you do run into an issue at launch you can always jsut ask the community again. Best of luck.

fallout 4 seem to have a totally different mod support than the previous games. So not sure how that will work.

Aw come on we can all agree that it was really fun to do manual installs in Morrowind and Oblivion xD
I mean 1 mistake on manual install then and you had to redo it all, what's not to love xD

I manually install all my mods in each Bethesda game. It's fun. :p

You game is still saved on your computer. In fact, I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) if you have a physical copy, you don't have to play through steam, meaning if you delete a steam.dll it won't cause you to have to reinstall the game. If you're like me, digging around in my Fallout folder and potentially deleting stuff, you don't have to worry about Steam getting in your way.
Assuming 4 will be anything like 3/FNV. Who knows, maybe things will be different?

Whats not to love is having to copletely reinstall all my Bethesda games because ENB broke something on them. Clean full system wipe of all Skyrim and Fallout related files/folders and installed skyrim again. Back up and working.

Yeah... 4 straight hours troobleshooting... 'fun'.

:tcry:

Um, no.

PCs will all be using the same copy - whether we download it, or install from a disk.

Also, this is likely to be a "SteamWorkds" title on PC, meaning that even if you get a physical copy? It will be part of your Steam account. I opened my steam account when I bought a physical copy of Metro 2033, years ago. I didn't have a choice: even with the disk in my drive, I had to have a Steam account to play. Heck, to even install.
