Why is the perception perk so bad?
In the older fall outs I could literally see anything with perception of 7 or better from a mile away to the point where it was kinda annoying because my screen always had some kind of red marker on it.

But now with 8 perception I can't even see a mole rat on my radar that was 10 steps or so away from me that I was looking at down the sights of my gun. What gives?

How would perception make your radar better?

Because they changed its functionality from something relatively worthless to something that can dramatically effect your combat potency in VATS.

Aka. still pointless, since VATS itself is pointless. (Or rather - It doesn't stand a chance against anyone with even basic FPS competence)

From what i've seen. Enemy markers appear only when you are in "combat" mode.

Now I understand why people want to craft ammo. *snickers and keeps using Vats saving ammo*

Right? I spend 3-4 shots to kill a raider in VATS, and it takes about 15-20 if I noscope them, even if every single shot hits them dead in the chest. Luck builds <3 VATS.

Like I said - Basic FPS competency. VATS will miss 9/10 times at medium range, unless you put hilarious amounts of stats and traits into it.

Any weapon with a decent scope - You can pick off people's heads from half a mile away. VATS definitely does not save ammo for me - In fact the few times I've had to use VATS to get off shots quickly, it has wasted half of the shots. Not fun with a gun with limited mags.

Unless you play on survival, an you need to shot them in the head 10 times :/

And in that case, VATS isn't going to help you either. Mostly because it won't even acknowledge targets at that range to begin with...

Im playing on very hard so trying to "melee" enemies to death isn't exactly ideal and I don't use vats often

Being able to see things is useful but being blind is 100% worthless

Perception's ability to put things on the radar was my favorite part of F3 and FNV. I was about to avoid dangerous enemies and tactically plan my battles. Identifying units with whom I'm in combat is usless. I already know where they are at that point. And then if I hide successfully, *they* disappear from my compass? My hiding hid them? Ugh.

The change is good in my opinion. Instead of just "knowing" that folks you come across are enemy from a great distance you now have to get closer to find that out. For instance I killed a trader who looked like a raider with a sniper and only realised once I went to loot the body. Even when I started playing FO4 I assumed the perception mechanic was the same as previous installments and proceeded to get close to NPC's who turned out to my surprise to be enemy.

It made it too easy in FO3/NV once you realised to create your character with high perception and you could take on deadlier enemies at a distance in the early game provided you were perched somewhere they couldnt get to you.

So do you snipe someone who may give you a quest or can buy goodies off you or do you take a risk and get closer first?

I run perception ,luck and strength . Vats is worthless but manual sighting is awesome .
Mansen Nov 27, 2015 @ 6:21am
Problem with that logic that it is strictly on way - Enemies will gladly shoot at you from across a field. You don't have that knowledge.
