VATS
Do you people use VATS at every oppurtunity you get? For instance, you use it and immediately as your AP comes back you use it again. Is that fun? To me, it just takes away from the flow of the game. Sure it's fine to use it but when it gets to the poin of overuse, I'm just baffled. But hey, don't let me tell you how to play.

I like using it to sort out a chaotic situation. It is great for ammo conservation.

I enjoy VATS. I'm hoping for a mod that lets it pause the game like it used to honestly. It's the one new thing I'm not happy about so far. Then again I prefer turn based games over shooters usually.

I agree with you there.

Understandable. I'm a fan of the Total War franchise but that is also real time. That must be where I get my real time enjoyment of Fallout from.

I didn't use it in FO 3 or NV. Really happy to see that they spend so much time improving the FPS aspects so we don't need to rely on VATS.

It also gives me that feel I had from Fallout 1 and 2 which I played when they first came out and are the reasons I love the franchise. That being said I did usually play without turn based mode in Fallout Tactics, since controlling a whole party every turn got tedious.

In games like this though where I'm really only directly controlling a single person I like to pause and think about what I want to do. Taking that away by maknig it slow but not stop time puts more pressure on me than I want in a situation like that. It forces tactical thinking instead of strategic.

That isn't always a bad thing but it reduces the time I have to check everything out in my surroundings and be sure that I want to take one attackers limb out instead of trying for a headshot on the closest enemy. I have time to assess which attacker is the most threatening and which target I'm most likely to succede in taking out of the fight so I can deal with the rest.

All in all though the franchise has been moving more towards a first person shooter type game, and that's totally fine, it works well for what it is. I'm just glad they stil have VATS at all so I can still play the way I want, even if I end up having to find a mod that makes it pause time instead of slow it.
When encountered by a Deathclaw, I like to put my aiming skills to the test.

It's at that point when I've shot it about 8 times, and it's machete-like claws are about half an inch from my cowboy hat is when I smash that VATs button, and pray for a critical headshot.
VATS is for cowards.

I use VATS for two-handed semi-auto weapons to score some critical hits. But do you really need it still when you're rocking with a Gatling laser?

i like playing unarmed so using vats can give alot of mobility. if someone is on a higher floor and i can see them, i can jump, vats in the air, then teleport behind them.
I play Fallout for the RPG, not the FPS so I tend to use VATS any time I'm not sneak sniping someone.

Pretty much this. I have FPS games if I want them, Fallout is an RPG.
VATS all the way :D
