Marcie stole my minigun :( and picket fences do not help :(
I am storing all my extra stuff in containes within Sanctuary. When some raiders attacked, I noticed an insane amount of bullet tracers being shot at them. Marcie took my minigun and ammo from one of the containers!!! I had no idea they could do that. I guess I will have to move my home base to Red Rocket.

I spent the first several hours using the picket fences to make a complete circle around Sanctuary, along with using some of those bushes that you cannot walk through. I was not sure if that would be enough or if I have to bulid a 'junk' fence instead because they are much higher.

Does any fence keep out Raiders? Or do they just spawn inside the area anyway?

I bet the raiders laughed their ass off when they saw you built a picket fence around your settlement for protection :D

The best way to defend your town is to build turrets. If your defense is high enough, you will never get attacked.

I only use fences for looks as they dont do anything. If the attackers don't just simply walk through the gate they might even spawn inside the fenced area.

So yeah, turrets is the best defense ( I honestly enjoy the missile turrets haha ). Keep the defense number higher than your water and food supply.

I barely use Big Weapons in any Fallout but a lot of people here say the Minigun sucks eggs so I assume it's not a huge loss.

Also, fences won't make raiders fear you, buuuut... I think if you plan right, you could potentially detour them while they get damaged by turrets at a vantage point.

i recommend keeping all your main weapons and armour in a settlement that dosen't have any humanoid settlers or followers, this stops stuff from going missing
robots and dogs are ok

I also have the turrets. I just thought that a fence would force them to come in through the gate I have at the bridge. That is the only opening. They were attacking back in the area near the root celler. I think they just spawned inside the area. I found other posts that claim they will spawn inside any fence you have. Bummer. I wanted my settlement to be safer.

The minigun was stored because I never use it anyway, and I can easily just remove it from her inventory.

Now that I know that settlers will steal stuff, I am gonig to have to make my personal base at Red Rocket.

I had no idea, either.

But don't move your base. Build a place to put your stuff, that the settlers simply can't get into - make it so you have to build a bridge to itm for example ... and REMOVE that bridge evry time you're done with that area(Store the parts, don't Scrap them).

Spawn locations for attacks can be a bit wonky It's best to have defenses able to cover your entire settlement, inside and out - and not rely only on walls. Use turrets, liberally.

I am sick of building walls or fences and NPCs[hostile or otherwise] spawning on the wrong side of them all the time.

Dont use fences to keep raiders out. Use them to herd them into a single choke point, then let a missile launcher turret do the rest
GM Pax Dec 2, 2015 @ 3:16am
^^^ Yeah, that. Use fences, walls, etc to "direct traffic" into kill zones.

store your stuff in the WORKSHOP!!
they cnanot steal it from there and oyu can access items form ANY crafting station in the settlement ;)

and no matter how high your defence, your settlements can and will get attacked
defence just helps reduce it and eleiminate them when they do attack

always have some turrets aimed/cpaable of INTERNAL defence not just your borders
