Does anybody actually keep wearing the vault suit?
Just wondering. All the pictures of Lone, male or female, that you see in loading screens or online have him/her still in the vault suit, but I never wear it. I'm usually wearing the Silver Shroud suit. Man, that's one side of the game that was vastly unexplored. I would love to play the game out towards seriously becoming the shroud instead of having it be one tiny little bit.

I dig the Shroud duds too. Don't know that I'd actually wish to be The Shroud though. :D

Well, I mean, as much as anybody can be. Since the Shroud is a fictional character, I guess anybody who has the suit and does the job is close enough for a post-apocalyptic world.

If you mean in real life, yeah, I wouldn't want to do that either. He gets shot too much. I'm not like other people. I don't like pain. It hurts me.

The vault jumpsuit is a very decent item initially, but I almost inevitably replace it with clothing that can have ballistic weave. And even when I don't, I'm often playing a character who should dress differently for character purposes. The one character who kept wearing it was the one who I explicitly decided to have aim for becoming a vault-dweller and building their own vault to hide away from the scary wasteland.

It's kind of nice that there's one jumpsuit that has a legendary effect (Legend of Vault 88), but even then, reduced damage from ghouls isn't really worth the trade-off.

Yup. My current character's rocking the fully upgraded vault suit you start with and the mercenary armour from the Far Harbour DLC.

Ehhh, do you mean the Marine armor from Far Harbor? Or are you confusing that with the Creation Club Mercenary set?

Most of the time I use the Vault Suit, simply because by the time I get to ballistic weave most of my characters have stockpiled cores and moved into power armor.

Now the non-power armor builds tend to wear something I can layer armor on top of. So wind up often in road leathers, military uniforms, etc Something functional and usually with some stat bonuses (primary focus on end + str bonuses with armor tweaked for the build)

Yeah, the radiation and energy resistance bonuses aren't bad for non-weave wearing characters (and I usually don't do weave because it's overpowered), and the legendary one has...not a completely useless effect. So when I'm doing a non-VATS run and don't need perception or agility boosts from gear, but also not melee so I don't need strength, I do a vault suit. Well, I do have mods now that let me wear armor with stuff that usually you couldn't, and despite the clipping, sometimes it still looks pretty decent (vaguely reminding me of rangers from New Vegas).

I do mean the Marine armour set, my bad.

As soon as I get a BoS jumpsuit, I don all combat armor pieces, even if I'm not playing BoS.

Then try and get a black BoS jumpsuit as soon as possible, because who doesn't like black?

I usually get out of the vault...and out of the suit, too. This time I am finishing a 100% vanilla run and I am still in the suit, but I have power armor, too.

I think the vault suit gets some favor because you don't have to buddy up to the railroad to have upgraded underarmor. Sure, it's mostly just energy resist, but that's really handy vs robots and synths. And it balances out armors that are DR heavy and ER light, like Metal and Robot.
Even late game I usually still carry the jumpsuit and switch to it any time the resistances are preferable to the Agility bonus from military fatigues. Also I switch to it for the dialog responses. Like no1schmo I don't use ballistic weave because I think it's stupidly OP.

For those interested in the details, the vault jumpsuit uses an armour lining mod slot for its upgrades, which is the same slot type that regular armour pieces use for things like pockets or lead lining.

I've played around with mixing them sometimes using workbench scrapping glitches.

Well, Bugthesda buggery aside,
Ballistic Weave is supposed to only be used on full slot "outfit" type of clothing. The one that you can't put regular armor on.
With six complete exceptions and numerous partial exceptions, it goes beyond what you could reasonably call a mistake.

I think they realized they needed something to make people want to deal with a faction of brainwashers whose big questing theme is 'escort quests'.
