What if the Enclave were in the game...
What kind of role do you want them to play? Maybe a Faction you can join or just plain bad guys like in previous Fallout games?

The Enclave is all but destroyed.

Got enough bad guys to kill, it'd be nice to have a strong bad group to join, take on everyone else etc and a counter presence in the world to the BoS, who have a strong presence with the verti's dropping soliders everywhere.

Acording to lore they were eradicated in the west from FO2.
In FO3 their main base of operations in DC got wiped off making them total renements and out of active orders.

You may only encounter rements of them. some bunker and remains of them. We still get their pre war PA. Besides we have BOS acting like fifth reich. the future Nazis.

True, but I could see remnants attempting to take control of the institute, maybe even the prydwen, perhaps even taking settlements to boost resources and numbers.

And yet they rely on one random dude to do all their work.

the remnants are currently running from the NCR/Legion in the New Vegas lore.

I'm thinking that with ALL that open sea, should the enclave, happen to have developed seaborne capabilities, some manner of large submersible craft, or group of them, it leaves the present map wide open for an assault from the sea. They had an oil platform previously, so, a sea based force isn't a stretch.

Yeah no doubt they'll be back. Maybe the Enclave returns via sub in a possible underwater-based DLC expansion?

Illuminatez!

Hmmm. Maybe, maybe not. One or two surviving members, high ranking could have started it back up. We never know.
Sadly, I think the enclave is no more (shame, seeing as they are my favorite faction). The chosen one destroyed there main base in Fallout 2 and from what we can tell from the remnants in new vegas navarro was abandoned. Also, any survivors are being exterminated by the NCR and BoS

The ones that moved east where destroyed by the Lone Wanderer and any remnents where destroyed by the BoS, other wise they wouldn't be sending this the huge expedition to Boston.

So I think it's safe to say the enclave is dead, unless they were revived throught the power of deus ex machina.

If any survived at all, they would be very small number, too small to make an impact in anything against bigger factions. They'd have most likely abandoned the Enclave and started something new like mercenary work, or simply retired. And its not like they have a "pool" to recruit from if they are rebuilding. Would the enclave really recruit from teh "tainted" world they hated ?

Andl ike said, they are still consided KOS to many factions like NCR and BOS, So unless they start waving the white flag, they are done for.

They would hide, rebuild and bide their time before waving a flag. And then when their strength is considerable again, then they would announce themselves.

Considering the vault dweller, is both pre-war and former military, if they were going to reach out to someone in the present time, he'd be a prime option.

A prime ally to their cause. To aid in rebuilding their faction ;)
